Isn't your surgeon accessible?? You need to call him. Could it be yo'u may be having a calcium problem too? This is something that needs to be made aware of.
Either way - you probably are hypo and need meds very soon to get this under control. Hypo T is terrible and if you aren't on any meds yet after the TT your poor hormones are imbalanced.
Call the doctor - they should be made aware of this and you shouldn't have to suffer.
If I were you Shannon, I might head to the ER. Not because I think you are thyroid storming, but just to be seen. Especially everything you are going through. You know? Thats what I do when i have a gut feeling. You have nothing to lose.
My doc called me back and said I should try to take 25 of Cytomel twice a day instead of the splitting in in half. I have been laying down all day and I did call my mother in law to come help with my daughter. She needed to eat lunch and I was sobbing on the floor and couldn't get up! The doc didn't know what to make of the stomach issues I'm having (diarrhea- SORRY so gross!) or my 100 degree temp, said it sounded like a viral infection. Really? I am wondering if I am going into Thyroid Storm and should go to the ER...
Thank you everyone for your support...man, this is just so hard!
I forgot to mention that immediately after surgery, I had to spend most of my time in our library (one of the smallest rooms in our house) with a roaring fire as my best friend for comfort. It wasn't even that cold outside, but I couldn't bare to be anywhere it wasn't really warm (and I mean REALLY warm). Your body is trying desperately to cope with the loss of it's thyroid and the hormones that keep the body regulated. That is, unfortunately one of the side effects. Are you officially going hypo now? Or can you ask about the additional cytomel?
Oh, I forgot to add that I'm freezing too - last night I pulled the extra duvet out - yes, I slept with two duvets - and its quite mild out...so the freezing thing must be normal too.
I am two and a half weeks post op, and I went back to work on Monday. After working Mon, Tues and Wed, last night I went to bed early (9pm?) and have JUST WOKEN UP NOW!!!! I woke up at 8am to feed the boys some toast (I was not in the mood to make them anything "better"), get them dressed ("yes, you ARE wearing THIS") and thank God my Dad picked them up and took them to school. I went straight back to bed and just woke up now - 5 hours later. My eyes are burning I'm so tired!
I'm surprised I"m this tired, to be honest, but it is what it is, and I'm resting as much as possible, becuase I literally cant stay wake!
Also, I"m very weepy. I cry myself to sleep at night, and often in the middle of the night, and pretty much as often as I'm awake.
You have just been through a LOT (the tests, the surgery, the diagnosis) and you SHOULD be feeling the way you are. You are not SUPERWOMAN (I mean you are close, but just maybe a little shy of the flying part - she did fly - didnt she?). My point is, dont be hard on yourself.
You are doing great and although you will have good days and bad, I'm sure it wont be long before the bad ones are a memory that simply made you a stronger person.
Hang in there!
:)
Now I'm going back to the couch...zzzzz....typing this was exhausting!...zzzz....
I'm right there with you. Got scanned yesterday. RAI tomorrow. Hang in there! How much longer? A friend to let you nap is a GREAT idea. It helps more than you think.
This stopped being any fun awhile ago.
I've been wearing a coat around the house for months now.
Too stubborn to put on an "old man" sweater over the two shirts I wear. Vanity, and all that. :-)
Been there with the crying, too. There isn't much you can do but let it out and then blow your nose.
I've had days I was too weak to shower. I sure don't envy you at home taking care of a child.
It will get better. I don't know how much longer you have to be off meds, but I hope it goes quickly for you.
Resting as much as you can is the only relief you will get. Have you any friends that can stop by and give you a little help, a little encouragement, a little distraction, a chance to take a nap?
I know you are strong mentally.
Tough gals need rest too.
Hey. I'm sorry, this part sucked. I will say that I was feeling really weird post TT and when I went in for my TT follow up to remove stitches, I mentioned it to my doc. 25 of Cytomel was just not enough for me. We upped the dose to 2 x 25 a day and I was MUCH better. I was really nauseas when I was super hypo preparing for RAI. I'm sure it's that you're not getting enough hormone for your body. I would have you call the docs office and ask if you could take another cytomel. They told me one 25 dose was enough for most people, but I could not focus and barely drive to the docs office. When I started the second pill, I was totally different. From night into day. I'm pulling for you.
And BTW, the pic of your daughter in her high chair asleep in her food, is priceless! I have a pic just like it! Squeeze her while you can, mine is in Kindergarten and doesn't want to hug as much as when she was that age, but she's even more of a joy for me post cancer! It does sharpen one's focus, I will say that... :-))
I'm so sorry that you are going through this.Just look at like this is how you are going to kick some cancer @SS!!!
Many hugs to your friend!!
