Frustrated with ENT

I have 2 large nodules (around 4cm each) on either side of my thyroid and one small one on the right side.  I was referred to an ENT to do further testing.  When I went to see him, I told him about my trouble breathing, constant coughing, and fatigue, which have all just come up within the last six months or so.  He said this had nothing to do with the nodules and was probably allergies.  He prescribed an allergy medicine and nasal medicine.  I told him I've had seasonal allergies since childhood (in the spring, when pollen levels go up), but he still thinks it's allergy related.  I'm trying the meds, with no results.  In the meantime, last Monday I finally had a FNA done on the right nodule, and am waiting for the results.  The ENT said if the results of the FNA are normal, then "we just won't worry about the nodules."  Easy for him to say!!!  I think what I'll do is request to be referred to an endocronologist if I don't get anywhere with the ENT.  What do you think?

Thanks for the advice.  I have had my thyroid levels checked and they were all normal.  I know there is another thyroid test I can have done (I can't remember the name of it), so I'll pursue that.

Thanks for the advice.  My nodules are both complex nodules.  One is 3.7cm and the other is 4.5 cm.  I hope I will find out the results of my FNA and then move on to another doctor.  It's so frustrating!!!

You have to understand that an ENT may very well not be a "thyroid specialist", just as an endocrinologist doesn't always mean a thyroid specialist as well.
Sorry to say but your ENT doesn't sound specialized in thyroid at all. A 4cm nodule can cause all kinds of breathing issues, coughing, etc. Also what type of nodule is it? Cyst.....complex....etc?  Don't let this guy pump you full of allergy meds when not needed....especially for the fact they aren't working right? :)
Find a new DR is my opinion! :)

Breathing, chocking, coughing problems are related to thyroid nodual, most of us with goiter and or noduals suffer this.. A endo would be a good choice:) with the fatigue have you had your thyroid levels done..blood work..
