Hi Everyone
Im a 31 year old male. I Had a subtotal thyroidectomy (right lobe and part of the left was removed)on Aug 6,2010 due to toxic nodule/endonome.I experienced hyperthyroidism symptoms before the surgery. What I would like to know is,after the surgery,is my thyroid(or what is left of it)now underactive(hypo)?
Some days I feel OK but other days, like today, I feel totally drained, sluggish ,lightheaded, dizzy,no energy and sometimes some nausea.
My doctor started me 10 days after the surgery on Euthyrox(Levothyroxine) 50.He said that I must use these 10 days to get rid of the excess hormone caused by the hyperthyroidism. After 6 weeks from surgery I need to return to him with blood tests and he said he will then determine the right dosage of medcine I need.
Is this typical symptoms Im having after surgery and can Hypo symptoms occur so early after surgery and is this in fact Hypo symptoms Im experiencing?
Any information is appreciated !
Thanks
Yes - then to rid the excess hormone ( off the hot nodule) with free flowing hormone still present - that now makes sense.. and even more reason why the trial dose - low amount - is being implemented right now.
To seriously save yourself "time".... I can strongly suggest to research and talk here to others about how important the free level test are in order to bouce back quickly from these type of condtions. You most likely will be hypothyroid after things simmer down from the active responses you had with that nodule and now that this is removed.... eventually you will fall hypo to a degree.
The whole thing balancing this with meds can be challenging and knowing it and your body is critical for you.
