Hi. My name is Rebecca, and I have a question for you. I was diagnosed last year (May of 2007) with Hashimoto's disease. And around Christmas this year (about a few days after) I was getting EXTREMELY exhausted. So, my stepmom took me to the doctor. I went through several tests, and I was diagnosed again with Hypothyroidism. They had explained it all to me. What can happen, what's normal, and my treatment. I was started on medicine. (I'm not too sure on the dosage, but, it was a pink pill). I was on it for, a little over 6 weeks. My stepmom had gotten the results back and shared them with me. It turned out that the medicine dosage was too much. So, the doctor put me on a lower dose. It is 100 MCG. My next appointment isn't until August. I've had a cold since for about a week now, but, it's going away. I've been having VERY sharp stomach pains, and after I eat, (if I can, i've been having no appetite, and all I want is water), I have bowel movement. Not diarrhea though. Yesterday, Thursday, May 8, I started my period. I haven't had a solid one in a long time. I thought maybe that was the reason I wasn't feeling so well, but, It seems that I'm only spotting, and I STILL have the stomach pains and bowel movement. My question is..Whats going on? Is there anything I should be worried about, or is this normal?

I'm sorry you are feeling so terrible. That is awful.  I don't know anything about Hashimoto's or hypothyroidism, but I do know that your doctor should be monitoring your thyroid levels through bloodwork every 4-6 weeks.  I had my thyroid removed last month, and they told me I would have blood tests once a month until they get the levels right.  Synthroid (the drug I am on) takes a long time to build up in your bloodstream, which is why they do it monthly.  If you are feeling badly, I'd call and ask to be seen sooner and get more tests run. I don't know if your symptoms are normal, but I wouldn't think so. I wish you the best of luck, and let us know how you are doing!
