HELP ME PLEASE

I have had hypothyroidism for 16 years now.  I was recently diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroid along with the underactive thyroid.  About 4 years ago, my thyroid flipped and I became hyperthyroid.  Since then I've had to add an additional dose of blood pressure medicine and 2 different anxiety medications in fairly strong doses to control the anxiety and the heart palpitations.  I have been on synthyroid .175 for years and had heard about Armour Thyroid.  My TSH was always what was considered in the normal range (except for the one time 4 years ago), but I never felt any relief.  My hair was thin, am cold all the time, the anxiety is horrible, mood swings and I am having horrible back pain in my hip area.  I decided after talking to my dr. to try Armour thyroid.  In 3 months time, my TSH has gone from 2.5 to 65.8.  The dr told me he has never seen a TSH that high before.  I also as I'm writing this am battling a urinary tract infection.  I'm wondering if there is any long term affect on my other organs and if the synthyroid didn't give me any energy before and my hair was still falling out, what do I do now?  The Armour was supposed to be my saving grace, the cure all thyroid drug, but now I just feel exhausted and want to cry.  The brain fog is horrible.  I go to the grocery store and forget when i came after.  Does anyone have any ideas as to any medication that would help me feel like a normal person again and not a zombie who can hardly make it through the day without tons of caffeine and tissues for all the crying I do?   Would appreciate any comments or suggestions.

Hi,

armor has been reformulated.  It is not the same drug that was effective beofre.

YOu need to try a different brand of dessicated thyroid.  Forest has one brand.  Erfa (of canada) is another.  Or see if you can find a compounding chemist.

Don't give up on the dessicated.  Just give up on the armor.

I take ERFA brand.  Before I was on just T4 and yes, it helped - the lights came back on.  But with the dessicated (I used a compounded 1 from australia first and now ERFA thryoid) the world has color.

I mentioned the Nature throid to my dr and he had never heard of it.  I live in a small town, so that could explain it.  I've been to 4 different Endocrinologists and they all tell me the same thing.  My thyroid is fine, I'm just overweight and need to starve myself and exercise about 3 hours a day to loose weight.  Well that sounds great, but all I really want to do is take a nap.  i feel like I'm walking with lead shoes on.  I'm getting very frustrated because i have small children and work part time.  It is hard getting through the day.  I realize I'm lucky because I work while they are in school and get home early, but on my drive home, it is all I can do to stay awake.  I just can't believe that the Armour that the drs all touted as a cure all has left me almost comatose.  Thanks everyone for the comments.  I appreciate everyone.  It's nice to know I'm not in this alone.

OH MY YES please please read my other posts I had been on armour for almost a year and not feeling any better this last month I could not find my armour so I decided to try and find Nature Throid and I am on day 4 and oh my goodness I can already tell a difference and I am not the only one who noticed a difference in such a short amount of time.

During the Spring of 2009, the natural desiccated thyroid drug, Armour Thyroid, apparently underwent a reformulation of fillers, including a decrease in the amount of dextrose, increase in cellulose, and the addition of cornstarch to the tablets. Since that time, some patients have been reporting a variety of problems with this new Armour formula. Find out more about the thyroid symptoms some patients are experiencing with the reformulated Armour, learn how to switch to other natural thyroid drugs such as Nature-Throid and Westhroid, and find out what patients are reporting after they've made the switch. http://thyroid.about.com/od/thyroid...formulation.htm

Armour used to be a cure all but now is not working well anymore.  Please please try Nature throid it was a huge break through for me.  And don't give up trying to find it I called every where and the very last place I called had it.

I can't offer you any advice as I am new to all of this and have hyperthyroidism. But I can offer you my empathy as I too am going through brain fog, exhaustion, lots of crying, no sleep  .... I started a post earlier today about feeling insane! I hope some of the others will come along and be able to offer you some advice about medication. But in the meantime, hang in there, you're not alone in the thyroid madness!
