Hair loss after levothyroxine

I was on a low (.25mcg) dose of levothyroxine for 4 months but stopped 2 weeks ago because my hair loss, which had been constant, was getting much worse. Can anyone tell me when I will stop losing hair? Also, does it grow back? And might I have better luck with Armour or another medication?
Thanks!

I am hypo as well and have been on synthroid for about six months, after realizing i couldn't take armour anymore due to having allergy to pork. I have had it for several years and have not been able to regulate or find any meds that either do not make me sick, or work. I lose my hair on synthroid, i however have a lot of it so as of now not a huge problem. but as far as i know with my hx it never ends....hopefully switching drugs could help you out thoug.

There are reports of side effects of T4 meds including hair loss.  More frequently I think it is related to continuing hypothyroidism.  People have reported having better luck with Armour, or even just changing to other T4 meds.  Hard to quantify the real cause.  I would suggest that you first look at your levels of the actual, biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and freeT4.  FT3 is actually the most important of the two, since it is four times as active as FT4 and FT3 correlates best with hypo symptoms.  In my opinion the very best way to treat a thyroid patient is to test and adjust FT3 and FT4 with whatever type meds are required to alleviate symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Frequently we hear that this necessitates adjusting FT3 into the upper part of its range and FT4 to at least the midpoint of its range.

If you will post your thyroid test results and reference ranges, members can help interpret your current status and advise from there.
