Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

What exactly is this?  I was diagnosed w/ it in March of 2005.  It's been 3 years, but you know...I never really thought to research or ask questions or anything like that.  Can anyone tell me if they have any experience in it...

Thank you and I really appreciate your help!  I did in fact google it this time. (I love google!) I found a fountain of information.

See, I found that my TSH levels are steadily rising, and my endo and I can never get the dosage right, because it seems that once my body gets used to one level of synthroid...it needs more!!  I'm currently on 75 mcg of it, and my TSH levels were tested last week at 5.97!!  That for me seems really high. And when I am NOT on my medicine, my body takes a dump on me.  My heartrate slows down, all I want to do is sleep and my face and limbs swell up so badly.  I remember I was off of it for a week, because they're still trying to get the dosage correct after 3 years, and my working HR was 60.  Not resting.  Doctor said that if I had kept this up, I'd have probably had a nice little heart attack, and I'm only 22.

When are they going to get this thing correct?  I understand I'll be dealing w/ this the rest of my life, which is fine, there are worse things to have...but it seems like it's a never ending story of practice makes perfect.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hashimotos-disease/DS00567

Above is a website you can go to and it will explain Hashimoto's in detail.  It is an auto-immune disorder where your body produces anti-bodies that attack your thyroid.
