Hashimoto's disease and it's effects on osteoarthrisis

I've been dianoised with Hashimoto's disease  for some ten years I've always taken my Synthroid.  I never miss taking my medication.  Now I have osteoarthritis and it is rapiedly getting worse.  In the past year my dr has lowered my dose from .125 daily to .112.  Since then I have gained weight and the arthritis in my fingers is getting worse very rapidly and I am wondering if there is a link between the two.  I know that the Hashimoto's disease affects my autoimmune system do you think that it can be making my arthritis worst.

I also have Hashimoto's and subclinical thyroiditis.  I was taking LevoxyI and asked to try Synthroid to see if I felt any better.  I really don't think I do. I also have osteoarthritis.  I have it in just about every joint in my body.  I need both of my knees replaced.  I have it in my neck, spine, shoulders, fingers, hips, knees and feet.  This all started in 2000 right around the time I was diagnosed with Hashi's.  I didn't know that Hashi's and arthritis were connected.  But upon thinking about it as an autoimmune disease I see how this can happen.  It is really the pits.  I keep worrying that I will end up in a wheel chair if this arthritis doesn't slow down.  I guess all we can do is keep fighting.

Christmascarol, That is almost exactly what I am going through plus I am also borderline, diabetic, high blood pressure and have scoliosis, and  surgeries, my hospital will not even take seriously because of my weight, not, knee or hip, cortisone shots sometimes in my shoulders.  I have tried everything standard medicine has dished out mostly, “ Take this for the rest of your life, , lose your hair and nail strength, and pick up IBS and/or GERD on the side, or holistic, chiropractic, and natural foods, herbs, vitamins, minerals, a food diet that consists of Greek yogurt, dry crackers mostly wheat free, nut bars (only peanuts, walnuts or almonds), cheerios (on a good day) or organic brn rice or oats.  Does ANYONE out there have similar experiences?  I spend half of everyday meditating, yoga, Qi Gung, and very minor stretches, before I can get to the point by 3-4 o’clock to get anything accomplished.  I am 65 yrs old and due to a brain tumor (vestibular schwanoma) need a walker to keep from falling when the symptoms combines with what ever meds the current Dr. has me on make  me dizzy or light headed in top of everything else.  I just want to know which forum would be closest to my situation to hear that I am not alone in this.
Annie - you’ve commented on a very old threat and it’s unlikely that XmasCarol will respond.

That said, you have symptoms that many of us have with Hashimoto’s.  The problem is that many/most doctors don’t attribute symptoms to Hashimoto’s on its own… they decide that symptoms are based on thyroid status - aka hypo or hyper thyroidism, typically  based on TSH levels, not actual thyroid hormone levels.

IBS, GERD and other conditions are common with Hashimoto’s or hypothyroidism.    I’ve been dealing with this (Hashimoto’s/hypothyroidism) for 15 yrs.  It can get pretty frustrating when the doctors discount our symptoms.

You’re in the right forum for dealing with Hashimoto’s and/or hypothyroidism.  It would be good if you’d post your own, new thread so we can help you better.

I have Hashimoto's too and osteoarthritis in my left knee. Had 2 surgeries on it 10 years ago and it got worse again....sigh....autoimmune diseases really suck big time. From what I have read, Hashi's does alot more damage to the body slowly over time and you do get lots of problems. I know I have!
