Help again with my numbers please?

Hi.  Well I still don't understand how exactly the numbers work dispite alot of help I just don't get it.  My numbers have never really been that bad; but, my symptoms have.  ?????  Wish it was the other way around.  Anyhow I'm just going to throw it out there.

T4 range is 6.1-12.2, the
TSH is .34-5.6 and the
FT4 is .58-1.6  back when I started taking levothyroxine back in April of this year.

                                            April 2008                  T4 -----------:5.7
                                                                            TSH--------- 1.43
                                                                            FT4----------  .66

Now T4 is------ 6.9
TSH is-----------.98
FT4 is------------.66   Is this good news?  Should the TSH be dropping while on LevoT?

Why do I feel like doo doo?  Muscle spasms, aches and pains +++++++, night sweats, emotional wreck at times, HR and BP changes, etc.

Any comments would be great.   Thank you all very much in advance......Amy

AR Hi, And I totally understand what you are saying about the Lipitor.  The first 2 weeks of taking it was insane.  The pains were so bad and then they eased up.

The problem I've been having with these pains though started up ~ 3 years before I started taking the Lipitor though.  The really odd thing is is that they seem to be more seasonal LOL than anything.  As crazy as that sounds.  As of now I'm afraid to give up on the Lipitor though being that my chol. and hsCRP levels are up in fear of heart health issues.

Maybe I had thyroid issues back when and just didn't know it.  Every now and then my throat gets very hoarse (mainly toward night time) my lymph nodes in my neck, underarms and (clearing throat..LOL) chest swell along with night sweats and hot and cold intolerance.  I think that is thyroid but who knows.

The only thing I know is that these pains are making my life helrible.   As crazy as they are there has to be an answer somehow to make them stop or at least ease up.

So in the mean while I guess I'll just sound like a nut job.  LOL

Take care;  friends always:  Amy  ;-)

First, let me say I was put on Lipitor after my doctor had put me on thyroid meds. Three days later I had "the very uncommon reaction" of severe muscle pain, the precursor of Lipitor screwing up all my muscles.

So I am not in a big hurry to try statins again. They put the "thyroid" warning on the list of cautions for a reason.

Dr. Choi suggested those tests because you talked of muscle pain.

A CK test checks for heart or muscle damage. The test is also known as Total CK, Creatine Phoshokinase, or CPK. The formal name is Creatine Kinase (CK).

"People who have greater muscle mass have higher CK levels than those who don’t, and African-Americans may have higher CK levels than other ethnic groups. Very heavy exercise (such as in weight lifting, contact sports, or long exercise sessions) can also increase CK.

Other forms of muscle damage, such as from a fall, a car accident, surgery, or a shot, can also increase CK. Several drugs can increase CK levels. Drinking too much alcohol slightly increases CK. Rarely, some drugs, particularly cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins), can damage muscle and increase CK. If you are taking one of these drugs, let your doctor know if you experience any muscle pain or weakness. Early pregnancy can decrease CK levels."

A CPK test is exactly the same test with a different name. The P comes from Creatine PhosphoKinase.

Hey there.

AR.....Thank you for the explanation.  I know it's not all in my head and I was trying to blame it all on something rather than saying I just have this weird issue and none of my symptoms match anything.  LOL  I was wondering if you are aware of a CK and CPK test?  And if so how does it have anything to do with thyroid issues.  O and concerning the FT3 as I said mine will not run it due to insurance reasons.

I posted a comment on one of the Dr. blogs titled "Have a high CRP by Dr. Choi" and he said this test might be in order.  ???  Anyhow thank you again for all of your time.

Kim.....Yes I have been under a bit of stress lately, but it's starting to taper down some.   I also questioned that but these issues that I'm having now have been going on for ~4 years with the pains.  Each year they seem to get worse.  Now I can add emotional stress to it is all.  LOL  Like you said before one time I would just like to know why.  Until then well.......hmmmm.......whatever.  LOL

Thank you for your comments.  Hugs to you both.  ........Amy.

LOL AR!  Its so hard to find a good endo --- you know that!  LOL ---

Amy - I think he's right (of course he is) you should find a doc that runs your FT's with your TSH --- LOL - I'll have to remember to write my own lab slip when I go back next month.

I hate your still feeling bad, but I did read somewhere that you can be feeling the effects of the "stress" from last month and the months before.  Stress works the body over and I think in your case, you have had more than your share lately so.... it is possible that your blood is just now showing the stress effects (does that make sense???)

I can understand your frustration.
I am not saying Euthroid Sick Syndrome is the correct answer, but it seems to fit.

Your Ts are low. Your TSH should be high.
It could be an adrenal issue.

SOMETHING is going on. Your thyroid hormone levels are too low. It's no wonder you feel bad and have all those symptoms.

Maybe an Internal Medicine Specialist or some other doctor needs to take a fresh look at the big picture, rather than focussing on just the thyroid.

Maybe you need to find an Endo that will run Free T4 tests and Free T3 tests instead of assuming your Free T3 is fine.

That's the pot calling the kettle black, because my Endo won't run Free T3 tests either. I have to get my GP to do it.

Confused.......Well if this was the case though I wouldn't need thyroid meds anymore.   I guess would be a plus on the up side.  My numbers (as you know) have never been bad.

The down side is I would be back to square one on not knowing why I feel so bad.  Urgg.  I just want to feel normal again.  It's getting old.

I'm so tired of all the aches and pains I could scream.  I can't handle the heat or the cold weather anymore.  I used to love being outdoors gardening, fishing and hunting or just plainly playing around with the dogs or playing disc golf.   :-(

I thought it was because of my levels were s l o w l y  dropping but maybe it's the pills themselves making it worse.  I don't know.  I think at this point I just have to deal with the fact that I'm not ever going to feel the way I did 5 years ago.  Sorry for the vent.  Just frustrated I guess.

I hope all is well with you.  Take care;  Amy.

AR Hi there.  I hope things are going good for you.  Concerning the T3 she will not test it.  While she was on vacation I had another Dr. test it and it was
T4        5.9   (6.1-12.2)
FTI       5.8    (5.9-13.1)
T3-TOT  105  (87-178)
TSH     1.13   (.34-5.6)                    These numbers were taken in September of this year.

The TSH has been dropping point every time it is tested slowly.  (In which for quite a while q month, down to every other month.)  I'm told this is all normal; yet I feel like doo doo.  I just don't get it.  It's so hard just to keep up with everyday stuff anymore.  Sorry to sound like a whiner.  Thank you,  Amy

The TSH is pretty good. The last one was pretty good, too.
You may just be settling in to a dosage change in the last 3-6 months or something.

If it keeps dropping, that would not be so good.

But like I said, in certain conditions the TSH is not the important test. The Free T3 is.

Get your Free T3 checked.

Seriously, it's important.
I was talking with someone today who's TSH was perfect, her Free T4 was a little low, and her Free T3 was practically under lab limit. Significantly lacking T3.

Get your Free T3 checked.

And the Total T4 test? tell your doctor to skip it. It's old and not as acurate.

P. S.  I was also curious if hair lose is a HypoT issue due to LevoT even though it's a low dose or if it's due to the Lopressor or both or neither.......Me
