Help with Sleep & Anxiety

I have Graves Disease & had TT Jan 2009. I have alot of anxiety & can't sleep. Can anyone recommend a natural remedy (I have been reading about Valerian & Melatonin). I have also read that you can't take these if you have Graves. Do I just need to talk to my Doc about getting Rx meds for this?

Before I was diagnosed with Graves' I almost always used natural tinctures for any problem I had. I used a relaxing sleep tonic, a valerian and passionflower compound and I used it nightly with no side-effects/addiction...and it always worked great.

However, you should ALWAYS talk to a doctor about any supplements/vitamins/over the counter meds...whatever, when you are "mixing" medicines.  The problem you will run into with doctors is most them don't know squat about natural remedies!  I mean, if everyone turned to natural remedies, how would Western doctors be able to keep their jobs?

My recommendation { and I am NOT a doctor }  is to a.) see your western doc and get your levels checked and see what he says about taking something for your anxiety
b.) is there any kind of herbalist in your area?  maybe one and also talk to them about what's going with you

Lastly, do yoga and do exercise.  Those are natural remedies that don't call for ingesting anything.  The mind/body connection is SO SO strong.  Good luck on everything!

Mellowscout...not a doctor.

I was in the same boat as you in regards to anxiety and not sleeping with Graves.
I found that if I went to bed early..I couldnt sleep even though I was mentally tired.
So my Doc told me to take 1/4 of a beta blocker (inderal) for 3 nights to break the habit of anxiety and sleepnessless.
It did the trick....took the 'edge' off the anxiety...enough to help me sleep.
Maybe you should talk to your Doc about this.
There has to be a reason for the anxiety...usually its your levels 'out of whack'.
I'd be getting your levels checked again.
Hope that helps.
