There are some members who have gotten treatment with T3 med, but I think they've either had to go private or go through a whole rigid process with their doctor to get it.
You might find this info useful in your discussions with your doctor.
IMPRESSIVE GOOD THYROID NEWS!
After a grueling week by the United Kingdom’s General Medical Council (GMC) , it was decided that the UK’s most renowned thyroid practitioner, Dr. Gordon P. Skinner, should have all his restrictions lifted and his Fitness to Practice restored!
On November 11th, 2007, the GMC had decided that the beloved Dr Gordon Skinner was not fit to practice, simply because in 2005, he dared to listen to and dose by a patient’s clinically-presented thyroid symptoms rather than her TSH labwork–the latter which fell in the erroneous normal range. Even more dastardly, felt the GMC, Skinner was going to treat the patient without a referral letter from her GP, and may have failed to contact the GP. Heaven Forbid!!
Says a recent statement from TPA-UK:
The GMC have agreed that Dr Skinner was not acting dangerously in initiating treatment with thyroid hormone replacement for those patients who had normal thyroid function tests but who suffered several symptoms and signs of hypothyroidism. They also agreed that for those patients who did not do well on levothyroxine-only therapy, the use of natural desiccated thyroid extract (i.e. Armour Thyroid) was a safe and effective thyroid hormone replacement that doctors could prescribe, even though it remains unlicensed. This is a precedent - and one that the British Thyroid Association are most definitely very unlikely to be happy with.

Thanks guys , iam banging my head off a brick wall with T3 iam sure in Dec it was Free T3
They always give me the results over the phone and its a nightmare everytime i ask about Free T3 then just say its not required testing anymore because iam under and they used to test it when i was over ,
Somethings not quite right , i will demand results next time and maybe take evidence with me :( its unreal iam really starting to think its something to do with T3 meds but they defo dont prescribe then in the UK so i know iam at a brick wall , thanks guys much obliged
Please check out this website. It is American I believe but it the National Academy of hypothyroidism. http://nahypothyroidism.org/
the 3rd item on the top left list talks about the Deiodinases enzyme. But the summary is that MANY, MANY things can affect the cellular level of thyroid that the Pituitary just doesn't recognize. This is just a reminder of just how variable and useless TSH really is.
TSH can report that everything is fine and dandy while at the cellular level they are starving for thyroid.
People in the UK we've heard have extremely difficult time with this. Some have even reported that it is illegal for Dr's to prescribe a T3 medication. I'm not sure if that is true but it shows the level of difficulty some have encountered trying to get the proper testing and medication to make them feel well.
As barb stated. Without testing of Free T3 there is really no way of knowing how much thyroid is available for use at the cellular level.
It's possible that you aren't converting the FT4 to FT3, but without an FT3, we have no way of knowing. A selenium supplement may help.
