Hi,
I did take Armour for 40 years with no problem at all and then in Dec 2007 I started having heart palpitations and from Dec-Mar this continued no matter how much they reduced the dose. I went from 135 mg to 75 mg when the doctor changed me to Synthroid mid-March. I then started to see an endocrinologist and he only prescribes Synthroid - not Armour at all. I have not done well on it so far. My dose started at 50 mcg to 75 mcg and two weeks ago to 88 mcg. They did test my T3 which is a bit low - but since I have only been to him once - April 8th - I have to wait about two more weeks for bloodwork and see what's up then. Meanwhile I have done nothing since I even went on Synthoid on March 19th - and I mean nothing. It is very depressing. I talked to the doctor's office several times and they said 21-28 days to see how I will feel on this dose and it is only 16 days so far, but no change. I don't think they tested my free T3, but I was thinking that the T3 result on my blood work must be the Free T3 since there is no T3 in Synthroid?? Don't know - even though I was on thyroid medication for 40 years I had no problems, so learned nothing about this until the last few months when I got on the boards.
Thanks for your note......keep me posted.

It is really horrible, but I have to say that I am so glad to hear that I am not alone... Thank you. I feel so tired, depressed, and so scared each time my heart raced and I could not breath. And I am wearing my full term pregancy cloths and I am getting bigger each day. Yet I feel guilty that to others I look fine and that I should be productive, working, and taking care of my little ones. I am soooo tired... Sorry I am of no help here as I don't know what is going on either. My doctor said I am "normal" but it is only from googling that I think I have a thyroid problem. I just want to say that I know how you feel, I do.
Liz, I would think it was 'normal' to feel the same, and not get better until the 4 weeks or so. But to get WORSE? Very weird. I'm glad I am not alone. Everyone on here told me to keep taking it... but I didn't. I see the Dr. tomorrow, so we will see what the tests say. If I had felt the same I would have kept on... but not now that I feel worse. This is my second day not taking it, and I'm still quite tired. BTW, my Dr. and Pharmacist BOTH told me to quite taking synthroid, and to get my levels checked again. Could you find a Endo, or GP that listened to you a little better?? Only YOU know how your body feels. Hope you can get off the couch soon! As for me I'm going to take a nap while my 3 yr old naps!!
p.s. have your heart palpitations stopped on synthroid??
I'm on synthroid for 1 month and my palps have not stopped. Starting Armour Saturday.
Hi,
I have been on .88 mcg of Synthroid for 16 days now. The doctor's office is pretty responsive. I as on .50 and the .75 but have only been on Synthroid totally since Mar 19th which is only 6 weeks now. I can't say that I feel worse - but certainly no better at all. I do not have the heart palpitations since I have been on Synthroid, but had then for four months the last while I was on Armour. But to clarify, I was on Armour for 40 years with no problems and have no idea what went wrong....my body absorption, formulation of medication - I will never know.
Yes, it is like torture having to wait......and that has been the way it has been all the while with the Armour and decreasing the dosage and I only started seeing the endo on April 8th - my first visit. I go for blood work in two more weeks and see the doctor on May 21st. Hope he can do something - it is awful. And yes, it is not good to hear that other people have this - but keeps you from thinking you are totally crazy in the way you feel.
Please let me know how you all are feeling.
Liz
