Highly elevated TSH but no symptoms

No family history of thyroid problems.

I developed hypothyroidism after taking a fat burner.

I grew very concerned that morning and went to my doctor for blood tests (the afternoon after waking up with a sore throat).
Blood test showed a high TSH and low T4.

I have been started on thyroid hormone replacement.

I think it could be either:
(i.) Soy-induced hypothyroidism (will wait 4 weeks and re-test blood levels)
(ii.) Hashimoto's thyroiditis (but antibodies are negative).
(iii.) Adrenal fatigue

Thank you Doctor.

i think you need to ween yourself off the vitamins and meds and recheck yourself in 3 months.  you're probably overvitamining yourself.  too much of a good thing can easily turn into too much of a bad thing.

Hi,

wow.  Had a hard time reading your post.  This is not a doctor forum but is a support forum for people who have thyroid problems.

1. Your diet is unlikely to cause high TSH at the levels that you have.  Likely due to real thyroid failure.  However, it is important to minimise soy foods that can have a thyroid suppressing effect. Veges like brocoli, cabbage etc. are very healthy and in normal portion size should have no problem.
2. You will need thyroid meds.  It is not likely that your thyroid would resume function again.
3. Failure to treat would put you at risk of hypothyroid coma.... after a long period of feeling unwell and having your body slowly shutting down.
4. You could ask your dr for adrenal testing. But this may not necessarily be a problem.
5. You need either T4 (thyroxine) or dessicated thyroid if your doctro will prescribe.  Important to start slowly at low dose.... it takes 4 - 6 weeks for levels to stabilise after each dose increase.
6. Try not to take all these fat burning and other supplements.  healthy diet with real food will be much better and cheaper. Peanuts unlikley to have had any effect.

Hope this helps.
