How come my T4 is the same number a couple months after being put on Synthroid?

I was diagnosed August 1, 2010 with silent thyroiditis.

My stats are (Range: TSH 0.40 - 4.50 // Free T4 0.8 - 1.8)

08/01/10 TSH 0.03

08/09/10 TSH 0.01

09/23/10 TSH 0.41

10/28/10 TSH 1.36 -- T4 0.96

12/6/10 TSH 3.80 -- T4 0.92

12/28/10 TSH 0.99

02/11/11 TSH 2.45 -- Free T4 1.1
>>>>PUT ON 25 MCG of SYNTHROID<<<>>>PUT ON 50 MCG of SYNTHROID<<<<

04/28/11 TSH 0.6 -- Free T4 1.1

------

QUESTION: HOW COME my T4 remained at 1.1 as seen on 02/11/11 and again on 04/28/11, despite the fact that I had started on Synthroid?  How come the T4 did not change, but the TSH did?

What do you think that means? I've made an executive decision to up my medicine to 75 mcg (currently prescribed 50 mcg) of Synthroid, but I worry I am making a bad decision. My doctor didn't want to see me again for TEN WEEKS and it devastates me to think that I am waiting around for an extra four weeks just because of that. I don't feel well and don't know what to do.

It is common when the T4 llevels go down, for TSH to go up.  TSH is only a pituitary hormone, readtforwhat, I would advise you to request a Free T3 test from your MD, as this is the actual thyroid hormone your body needs to function, You are taking a T4 medication
it takes most people up to 6 weeks for the system to respond, and your system could just be responding a little slower, I would not advise dosage changes without an MD's consultation, as you could have a sudden shift to Hyper from Hypo, if and when the T4 med catches up, everyone is different with hormone replacement medications, Tsh is not an important issue, I would advise just taking the prescribed medication, and call your MD and request a Free T3 Test, this will tell if your system is converting from T4 to T3, if not you may need a T3 supplement in addition to T4 get your thyroid balanced.  Best Regards FTB4
