How long does it take for increase to kick in?

I'm on my 5th day on my increase, I went from Armour 60mg to 90mg. When I went from 30mg to 60mg I felt an immediate difference but no so this time. I'm freezing and so tired right now. I just started my menstrual yesterday, the Barne's Basal temp site says to take your temp the day after starting. I took it this morning (using a non-mercury thermometer) the line was between 96.8 and 97.0 & my pulse was 68. Back when I started the 60mg my temp rose to 97.4 is this a sign that my body isn't excepting Armour anymore? Or is the hashimotos in high gear.

Barb is right that temperature is not the best indicator of how well the meds are working, especially since your basal body temp changes over the course of a menstrual cycle. It's more of a way to look at things over the long term; for example, when hypo my waking temp was often under 96 degrees, and now that I'm properly medicated it doesn't slip below 97.

In my experience, I can feel an increase in desiccated thyroid meds within 2-3 days. It's true that the T4 component will take longer to kick in, but since desiccated is mostly comprised of T3, I would expect you would feel *something* after 5 days. If not, it may just be too small of a dose still. When I raised dose I would often feel better for several days to a week or so, and then crash again, which would prompt me to raise again (this was up until 2 grains, at which point I slowed down the frequency of increases). Everyone is a bit different, but if you are still freezing and dead tired, I would hazard a guess that waiting 4 weeks for the T4 to kick in won't do you too much good. But if you need to wait that long to consult with your doctor about a dose change, then that may be what you need to do. Hang in there.

I think that's just an indicator of how the body absorbs and responds to the medicine. Not Hashi's in particular.

Thank you to you two for responding! Is that an indicator of hashimoto's to feel as you said "When I raised dose I would often feel better for several days to a week or so, and then crash again" or just hypothyroidism? That's how I've been feeling and it's getting old. :(

It takes the T4 portion at least 4-6 weeks to reach full potential in your blood; the T3 would kick in much sooner than that, but 5 days isn't very long AND temperature is not the only indication that a thyroid medication is working.

No, I don't believe that's an indication that your body isn't accepting the Armour.
