How well are you now?

Hello,

I have a question.  I've read many posts of thyroid patients that are on medication yet still feel tired, etc.  Is that just the way it goes, or can you tweak your type/dosage of meds until there are no more problems?  Can you get to full energy?

Thank you.

God bless you.

I've been on many types of thyroid -t4, with t3, several natural for Hashimoto.

I feel the best ever now on Erfa (thats just me, not nessesarily you), I feel about 90% symptom free. Been this way for 6 months now. Completely normal? No. I forgot what that was like. I was a kid then.

I do get more sore and tired than most healthy people. I go in spurts, and T3 does that to. But i'm not suffering anymore. Those days were the worst ever. I'll take 90%

I just bumped up med a little, no change though.

I am on Tirosint and Cytomel both. It took quite a while to find the right dosage before I began to really feel well. I had to get through the majority of the die off phase of my Hashimoto's as well, before my body could start healing. IT was a long road but I feel much much better now and have good energy. Most important is to acknowledge that you have boundaries now (physically) and to accept this...give yourself a break and not be too hard on yourself. You will get there! :)

How do you talk a PCP doc into a therapeutic trial if labs appear normal and the doc thinks I am normal?  My main issue is mild to moderate fatigue and sluggishness.  I also have a family history of thyroid problems.

Thank you.

I lived with hypo symptoms for many years because my TSH was "normal".  Finally I talked my doctor into a therapeutic trial of T4 med.  After finally getting up to 200 mcg of T4 daily, I still had lingering hypo symptoms.  After joining the Forum and learning about the importance of FT3, I got mine tested and found that even though my FT4 was very high in the range, my FT3 was very low in the range.

After a med change to a combo T4/T3 med, my dosage has been tweaked until now FT4 is  .90 (range is .60 - 1.50) and my FT3 is 3.8 (range is 2.3 - 4.2).  I did not take meds until after the blood draw.  Testing also showed a low level of Vitamin D, which is quite common with hypothyroidism, so I supplement that.   At present I have plenty of energy and feel best ever since I was about 30.
