My surgeon didn't do the frozen section, either. But it didn't take long to get an answer. Surgery was Friday, results on Monday.
Before the surgery, I researched a little on the Hurthle cell cancer (had some show up in my FNA) & decided that it was not helping me to read about something that was only going to scare me. So I stopped reading, went into surgery with a positive attitude, and now all is good!

I am having a left thyroid lobectomy, as my surgeon thinks a TT is overkill at this point, giving me 85% chance of benign. They dont do frozen section biopsies at this particular hospital and havent for 5 years, saying that they are not affimative one way or another.
So I guess I have to try to compose myself and try to deal with whatever may come.
This has been so difficult for me.
You are right, I dont know anything yet, but I know I'm having surgery (super scary) and I know I'll be away from my children for 3 days (I dont like to be away from then while they are at school) and I know that I may have cancer (OMG!) and that its the kind that may spread (OMG!)...so I'm trying here, but its hard...its so terrifying...its all consuming and a horrible time for me...
I had Hurthle cell cancer.2.6 cm
Had TT and RAI Dec 06
Doing very well now on 187mcg of synthroid.
went from 195lbs down to 168lbs from radically changing my diet and exercise routines after my surgery
Please dont worry about something that might not even happen it will only cause you more stress

Please dont sugar coat it for me! You are being strong, but it was / is tough, right?
I had Hurthle cell cancer 3.5 cm. It was found on partial thyroidectomy 11/30/07 and I had to have completion thyroidectomy on 12/21/07. I was quite shocked to get this diagnosis but knew that I had to deal with this as best as I could.
I was placed on Cytomel after surgery and later had to stop it in preparation for RAI. It has been a little over a month and I am doing alright. I had muscle aches and some fatigue from being very hypothyroid but have improved since on Synthoid.
Don't worry too much right now since you don't have a cancer diagnosis yet...I know, easy to say. Your nodule might well be benign. But if not, you should do fine. The boards have been a great support in terms of reading about other people experience.
