Hypothyroid

about 12 years ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.  When I went to my doctor they told me my tsh was 273 and my T4 was 0.

I have been on sythroid ever since, my current dose is .137mcg.   I have been higher and lower on my dosage. I have never really felt "right" over the years.  I go every 6 months for blood tests, and have been told that I am in  the range my doctor wants me in.. I do have a hard time having them give me the numbers.. they just tell me I am in range.

I have been experiencing hair loss.. my hair is falling out and getting very thin, I am tired all the time..I can fall asleep any time during the day, and have had to pull over when I am driving to close my eyes for a few minutes. I am very irregular.  I also have boughts of depression some severe. I was put on an antidepresent (prozac) I didn't feel this helped much, and I think it contributed to my weight gain. I have also been trying to lose weight, and am getting very discouraged... I have gained a lot of weight over the years.. when I started with this I was 5' 10' and weighed around 176. I now weigh 234 lbs.. I cannot seem to get this weight off no matter what I try.. I have been on ww for over 1 yr and have only lost 7 lbs.. I watch what I eat, and eat what I think is a very healthy diet.. this is so frustrating..

so now here is the question. are there other drugs that I can and should be taking.. I have never seen and Endo, only my internist, would seeing an endo be beneficial for me?

Any help or advice is very appreciated

It does make me feel better that others are having the same issues as I am.. I know I watch what I eat, because I have been journaling for the past year.. one of the things you need to do while on ww.

I am very concerned that you stopped taking medication entirely! I don't know how severe your thyroid issue is, but you should be treating your hypothyroidism.. the throid affects every part of your body, and you can actually die from this.  If you are not happy with your doctor you should see someone else.

I think the problem with internists  is that they are not "experts" with this condition. I don't think they really understand the problem.. You take a person who is already depressed, then throw in all of the weight gain, and then be told you are eating too much.. I know for myself that is not the case!!  I am sure it is not for you either!

I don't want to be bald, fat and depressed!! there has to be  a better solution isn't there anyone out there who can offer some advice?????

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a bout 4 months ago, and put on Synthroid. I started taking it and felt no change as far as being tired for the first month. Then, the second month rolled around and I went from weighing 125 lbs to all of a sudden weighing 140 lbs. I have always been skinny due to anorexia history when I was a teenager, but I live a pretty healthy life now. I eat a healthy diet and try to exercise when I have time. My weight had been stable (between 120 & 125 lbs) for several years now, and to have gained 15 lbs in one month to me is just crazy and hard to deal with.

I got tested again for my tsh levels and only got a response from the doctor saying I'm within range, but they won't give me the exact numbers. My doctor also won't take or return my calls to address my weight gain anymore, and told me at some point I was probably eating too much (which is not the case). So I decided to go off the Synthroid (yes, on my own .. since my dr. won't return my calls) and try a more natural approach to treating my thyroid. I believe that Synthroid was completely responsible for my wight gain, and am not willing to risk falling into my anorexic ways again because of it. It's just not worth it.
