pregnancy tsh hight ft4 normal

Hello,

This is extreme request to help me understand what is the impact on my child i am in the 5th month pregnant
and have TSH 15.5
FT3 and FT4 are normal
I heard baby required FT4 till 12th week we have already crossed that time of gestation and now in about 20th week
Although my FT4 and FT3 are normal through int he refeerence range i am extremely worried about my child development
as i read on itnernet that even subclinical hypothyroidism during early pregnancy  ( High TSH =15.5 , FT3 and FT4 normal) can impact child development
I want to know is my child saft????

My sincere and heartly thankss to clarify the things!!

Many thanks! Poojadinesh

Further, i visited endo and he suggested to go ahead witht he pregnancy and take thyroid hormone 50mcg
so that tsh can be regulated i do not understand why now in 5th month i have to take hormone supplement as my ft4 and ft3 are  in normal range
However i have started taking medicines can any body suggest the importance of taking hormone supplements at this junctue of 5th month as baby depends on fT4 and ft3 of mother only un til 12th week of gestation
Further , i read something on TPOAb can somebody help me understand what is TPOAb

Hello,

your levels are within the reference range.  This means that the risk to your child is very minimal.  However, best that your medication is increased to get everything up to a higher level.

Please try not to worry too much.

Hi,

Your FT4 is lower end of the range.  you definitely need thyroid meds.

Most likely your child would be ok, but important that you get medicated to bring the TSH down the FT3 and 4 up.

Can you post the lab reference ranges and your actual lab results together please? This way it's easieer for us to see where you are in those ranges. What t4 medication are you on and what type of thyroid issue are you dealing with? Please try to give us a little more info. Did you read the article by Dr. John Lowe. You can also contact him through his wife Tammy at www.drlowe.com. She is very nice and helpful and can arrange a telephone consult with him. It cost $4.65 per minute, however he can give you good advice on your above questions. I hope this helps.

what are the ranges for that ft3 and ft3 lab as they have different one. We are experiencing similar and you have to research yourself as the drs don't all seem very on the ball with this.
Try taking your medication at night, that's supposed to help lower tsh and raise ft3 but if your ft3 is up at the very high end of the range that's great! The baby uses t3. Good luck!

There's an article by Dr. John Lowe on this at www.ThyroidScience.com called Pregnant Women and Their Newborns: Among the Victims of T4 Replacement. You really should read it! It's not just the t4 that needs to be in upper range, it's the available t3 as well that really matters. My daughter was born without a thyroid gland in 2000. I've often wondered why? Maybe I was hypothyroid (low freet3) during my pregnancy and didn't know it? I do know that I had the baby blues after each of my 3 kids birth. (Especially w/my boys) and lost lots of hair. Anyway, I wish I would have read this article while pregnant. Atleast I'll know where my daughter's thyroid levels should be kept when she has babies in the future though. Gods Blessings to you and your baby!

Although TSH is a pituitary hormone and is affected by many variables, your result is high enough that we need to take a look at the FT3 and FT4 levels as well.  The reference ranges for FT3 and FT4 are very broad, so just knowing that your results are "normal" is not enough.  Please post the actual results and reference ranges used by the lab, so that members can provide the best advice.
