Eat kelp or seaweed fairly often as this is the only bioavailable form of iodine to help rejuvenate some thymus/parathyroid/throidal gland also.
"REJUVENATE" not cure. You can't rejuvenate a dead organ. Gosh This really bothered me. Where do some poeple get their info from?? Or there mis-conception of reading things appropriately.
I tried to email RR personally - but I can't find the member. Feel free RR to find me and email directly if you wish!!
WHAT???????????
That is an adequent theory on the Kelp - AS LONG AS YOU STILL HAVE A THYROID. This person NO LONGER has a working gland so if she does not recieve proper thyroid replacement supplements i.e. Synthryoid or other Rx thyroid meds, her condition could spiral into a myxoedema coma and die!!
Kelp is a great iodine replacement for let's say 3rd world countries who don't even have access to table salt for a spice. That is where Kelp would benefit. Kelp will not and I repeat will not maintain any TSH levels or convert anything from a T4 into a T3 for a body to absorb for thyroid stability.
I read extensively on natural supplements and wish the problem could be solved by sollowing seaweed. But reality is you need to maintain a prescription to geting all your T's to live.
This person posting this question is trying to look for a cheap method of trying to maintain her condition of NOT having a thyroid and to maintain her health, not sentence herself to an expensive hospitol stay or worse off a casket!!
As I stated prior in my last post. "With NO THYRIOD GLAND" it is essential to get on the proper meds. There are natural products on the market to enhance thryoid replacement therapy but NOT A SUBSTITUTE!!
If you are using Kelp as replacement therapy with no thyroid - God help you!! If not, I suggest you research that theory further.
Natural Methods is Kelp, although you would need help in how much kelp you would need to offset your problem.
Generic synthoid at Wal-Mart is only $4 a month even without insurance. Since you had your thyroid removed, it is VITAL that you get your meds. You will die without them. Your body cannot function without thyroid hormone.
Sorry about your situation- I had written a girl earlier today regarding health care and insurance.
YOU have to put your health first. If you have no thyroid and not on proper meds - it is fatal.
My suggestion to the other person was to seek out your OB GYN. Let them know what is going on. Most OB's are knowledgeable on hormones issues. They have ways of helping un-insured women get some assistance whether clinical help or payment options better than some other docs.
Your Rx for stabilizing your thryroid should be relatively inexpensive each month so you should not have an issue with that. I think a tank of gas costs more than the Synthroid does.
After you are back on your feet insurance wise, then if you are unhappy - seek out some specialist. Until then see your OB.
Natural remedies at this point will ONLY inhanse your meds - NOT control your thyroid hormone levels. You are in great danger if what you say is you have NO thryroid (and you only have one, not thryroids as you wrote.) and you are on NO medication.
Good Luck and get to your doc.
I lost my doctor last year because I lost my medical insurance when I got fired and there aren't a lot of employers that want to ofter benefits. My doctor told me that he would not see me again because of it. Everytime I went to get blood work my insurance was charged 600.00. I can't afford that . I am without medicine and trying to find something to take for now so I don't get sick without anything at all.
Some people say there are natural things to take like herbs and whatnot but I don't believe that you should risk your health by self medicating. If you want to go natural, you could ask for Armour instead of Synthroid. If your thyroid has been removed, you need T4. Synthroid is just T4. Armour has T3, T4, and some other things that may help you. it's not a synthetic medication.
I take Synthroid and I am just fine with it. Some people swear by Armour. its just what works well for you. But please, see a doc about this.
