Hypothyroidism and digestion

Does hypothyroidism cause a lack of digestion and in tern a lack of absorption of nutrients? I have an iron issue at the moment but have not started treatment with Synthoid or anything like that. I am unsure whether my iron problem will improve if my digestion is not at its full potential.

Any advice?

I have started taking apple cider vinegar with 'mother' after learning that my B12, D3 and Ferritin/Iron are all really really low. (I'm Hypo too)

It's supposed to be good for some people who have GERD as they actually have low stomach acid as apposed to too much acid and we all get lower acid as we age so worth trying.

Yes, hypothyroids often have low stomach acid and sluggish digestion. For this problem I take one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar immediately before eating a full-size meal. It works like magic.

Hypothyroid can result in digestion problems in some people. Low acid production is thought to be the reason. Dont forget bile production as well, something we don't know much about.

People that don't get improved digestion while taking T4 thyroid often see improved results on a combo thyroid med plan including T3 from synthetics like Cytomel or natural thyroid that contains both T3 and T4.

Low thyroid has no rhyme or reason what it decides to effect in people, all cells need thyroid hormones.

I should also add that over the last few weeks I have managed to change my diet so that I have a bowel movement everyday or at least every second day. I have just been eating lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, cereal and water.

But pushing through food in itself I don't think should be the aim, especially if that food isn't broken down to the point it can be readily absorbed by the body.

I have had these issues for years, but it is only now that I have a doctor who by chance ran a test (which should have been run years ago) and has found that I have autoimmune hypothyroidism.
