Hypro hell - how long does it normally take to happen?

Hi Everyonne~

I am going on 10 with no thyroid.  I had the 2nd half of my thryoid removed 11/14 for Pap thy ca.  I am crabby, constipated with side abdominal pain that comes and goes, tired - but managable, and a little foggy.  Am I entering what everyone calls hypo hell?  I am so scared of this part.  Could you all please tell me how much longer I have before I start to feel really bad?  I meet with the endo on Wed. to get my blood test results and hopefully my RAI date.

Thank you so much guys!  You are the best!

My worst days started about 4 weeks past TT, and I went 7 weeks before RAI.  I started not being able to focus, tired all the time, slept half the day, clumsy, lost hair...my TSH eventually got up to 186!  The day after RAI, I took my first dose of synthroid, 150 mcg, and I felt a total rush all over my body, that happened twice in a couple minutes, and I felt better the next few days.  My RAI was in late July, I am really feeling back to normal only the past two weeks (Dec).  I never had depression (thank God), I walked every day, after surgery I could do a couple miles, by the time I was nearing the RAI I could only do a couple blocks, but I kept at it, it felt good to be outside.  Good luck, it is not fun, but you will get through it!

I had the depressive state too with uncontrollable crying with Hypo.
I also had constipation, low pulse, freezing cold, brain fog , body ached like I had been hit by a truck.
I was on T4 med 6 weeks after RAI when my TSH hit 6.0.
Doc made sure I didnt go too high with the TSH...get yours to do the same with fortnightly testing.
RAI stays in the system for a while.....Utah is right.

I started feeling it after about 2 weeks but it really became horrible about week 4.  The biggest thing is to watch for depression - it can really sneak up on you.  If it happens (mine came in the form of uncontrollable crying) call your doctor and get antidepressants.  The depression was the worst part of it for me - everything else was horrible but manageable.  Sometimes hypohell symptoms peak a week or two *after* the RAI (the thyroid hormones are slow recovering) and don't go away for 6-8 weeks after the RAI (when your levels are, hopefully, back to normal).

You'll get through this - just lean on us!!

Well I didn't start to really "feel" it till about 4 weeks out.  I never really felt tired, I just hurt all over, the only way I could describe it would be that my bones hurt.  And I was constipated too, it was pretty bad!  Drank Miralax everyday for 2 weeks straight and it didn't do anything!  Don't be scared, most people handle it okay.  It's not something I'd want to repeat ever again in this lifetime though.  I didn't really start to feel like death was around the corner till about the end of the 6th week.  That was when my TSH was 251 and felt like I was dreaming my life. I actually drove myself to get my radioactive iodine, a 45 minute drive and I couldn't focus my eyes and really have no memory of how I got there. Aaaagh,,,,good times........

Sorry you aren't feeling well, but just think..........maybe it doen't get worse...maybe you are there. Hopefully you will get answers here and from you endo on Wednesday.
So go drink some prune juice, take stool softeners, drink lots of water and let the fog roll in.
Good luck. Keep me posted.
