I feel awful, twitching muscles

Hi all, new to this forum, yesterday.  I am hooked.  You all seem so knowledgable and I feel like I am in a cloud.  I have been feeling so bad in the past 2 months.  I have Hashimotos (8/2006).  My hypothyroidism seems to be creeping back.  I had TSH last week at 2.3.  My doc says this is normal and to continue with Synthroid 100.  Having read yesterday a few comments that 1 is a better goal, I am going to suggest to go up on my med.
I have also been experiencing severe itching at night on my feet and calves.  My kids get a big kick out of this, although it is hard to make light of it.  I saw someone write about Urticaria and had no idea this could be related.
Does anyone have twitching muscles when they get hypo?  Could I have a heavy metal problem?  I am seeing my GP tomorrow and want to go, guns blazing.    Any help would be great.

I had a LOT of itching on Levothyroxin T4 even with proper levels. Went away with Armour (t3 and t4 like your combo but not synthetic). Levo and Cytomel gave me bad headaches for three weeks - could not do it.

Many of us with thyroid condition (myself, finally diagnosed after 30 years - arrrghhhh - with hashi's) also have elevated cholesterol levels. My endo placed me on Vystatin and the muscle pain was beyond description within 2 weeks of starting statins. READ your patient info with this product! After 4 weeks I called the endo stating the muscle pain was unbearable and was immediately instructed to discontinue Vystatin. Now I am on Welchol, 30 year old med that has produced the same results as Vystatin - the only difference is you have to take 6 horse pills instead of one (so vystatin makes patient compliance easier).

It took about 6 month to recover from the muscle damage the statins caused. I still have leg cramps and muscle aches, mostly at night and some arm cramps/aches, eye twitching (when hyper) - but I know that's due to the Hashi's. Since my hashi's cycles between hyper and hypo (common with Hashi patients), it's difficult to treat, I can cycle daily. (Radioactive Iodine Uptake is the only reasonable course I have and really don't want to do it.)

I would recommend to all thyroid sufferers - if you've been placed on statins - do not overlook this culprit in exasperating the muscle aching and cramping. If you've been taking it for more than 2 years, the pain will be constant and beyond repair.

Lesson learned - always read the patient information pamphlet with your meds!

It sounds like my symptoms.  I was on Synthroid, as stated above.  I am now on T4 and T3, for 2 days.  I hope, out of all of my symptoms, that the twitching and fatigue slow down.  The itching, well my Dr. told my to take OTC Claritan, which I have for seasonal allergies.  I hope it works out for you and you go informed!  I don't think my doc would have treated my prediagnosed Hypothyroidism at a level 2.3, unless I told him it is not a level good for me.
Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help. I finally got my results. I go to the Dr tomorrow. My TSH was 7.8 now. I have been cramping all over my body and itching. I had a cramp under my arm, in my arm pit (it felt very strange)  My muscles twitch and ache all the time. The nurse acted like that couldn't be cause by my thyroid. I can't sleep at night and I am tired all day long. I hope they help me in some way. Thanks again for your help!!! You all have been helpful with your post comments. I have learned alot from reading them!

Cytomel is an added T3 so your doctor feels adding T3 is right for you with your SYnthroid. Sounds pretty solid that he decreased your Synthroid to add this too.

No I am off all synthetic thyroid meds and take Armour. This is different than Synthroid and has the T's all built in one tablet

You may notice after a few days taking Cytomel that your body temp may warm - some energy will return. But introducing any T3 in can cause some ... well unusual feelings. Don't be alarmed - you are getting great care and your physician is trying to help you. It just takes the body a while to realize this is happening so you may feel different.

Most likely in a good way too!

Hi there,

Well I did have my appt. yesterday.  He said he wanted to try Synthroid 75, instead of 100, and add Cytomel 25.  Which he says is equivalent to 125 of Synthroid, both together.  Try for labs in 2 months unless I still don't feel better and then in 4 weeks.  Thank you or responding!  Have you ever taken Cytomel?  I am not sure about this but am willing to try because I want to be normal again, or feel that way.

Oh if you are going to be recheck with blood work too - a great suggestion would be to also get a FULL panel done - not just TSH.request a

TSH
Free T3
FreeT4

and if you can push for it a Reverse T3 also.

If you say you want to go in that appt with "guns blazing" you should probably consider asking for an increase in your meds. I think a dosage of .112 would be totally appropriate. It is a tiny increase - but may help you with any symptoms you have.

I have been having trouble for 2 months now. I have been cramping all over my body. In places I have never had cramps before. I have them in my face, arms, side and legs. My muscles are all the time titching. I went on yaz bc in January. I have been itching for about three days. My obgy took blood test and my thyroid test showed up 8.9, I don't know what that means but they called and told me I needed to get to a family Dr. When I went they did blood work all over again and checked more but didn't do anything about any of this. It has been seven working days and I called about everyday complaining about the cramps. I haven't heard anything back. i can't hardly do anything without my body cramping. Do you think this is coming from my bc or thyroid? Thanks for any commants.

Thanks!  I need to bring research with me to my appointments.  I have my levels checked every 4 - 6 months.  This last time I was surprised that I didn't have to increase my meds.  I had a good stint of about 8  months that I felt almost normal.  I have been pushing myself to get through the day the past few months, including exercise despite the muscle twitching.   I am having insomnia, too, to add...

Thanks for the reassurance, I will continue to hope also.  I just want a day that I don't wake up feeling like a truck ran over me.

Muscles twitching /muscles cramp/Urticaria are common Hypothyroid symptoms. Do you know at what level you feel best ?. It varies with person to person majority of people feel good a 1.0-1.5 . I have been dealing with Hypo/Hashi since 2006 , my tsh level is bouncing back and forth. I still have muscles twitching /cramp /joint pain i can't do physical exercise longer . Still have fatigue during the day lack of sleep.
All my other test looks fine but still have same issues i would less then in the begining but still have it . My TSH was 1.8/FT4 was 1.4. My doctor increase my synthyroid from 75mcg to 88mcg.
Hang in there you are not alone , time will change that is the hope i have every day.
