I want my normal voice back-hoarseness

Hi everyone,

I'm 37 years old, had hypothyroid for 10 years.  I'm taking Levothyroxin .150 MG.  Actually, my dose was just adjusted few months ago, it use to be .125mg.  Anyway, recently about 2 months ago, my voice went hoarse.  Just woke up one morning and thought I had laryngitis or something, maybe a cold.  But it never went away and I don't have any cold or flu like symptoms.  I've been going out of my mind lately, doing research of what it could be.  I know there's a possibilitiy it's related to hypothyroidism. But then it's also related to acid reflux (Gerd's) - maybe I have that (I'm not sure) but I have been having heartburn a lot most of my life and I am overweight.  I don't know....I'm going crazy here...

One very major fact also is that I'm an x-smoker (been clean for 7 days so far).  This is what is probably what is making this whole thing so scary is that I think it could be cancer and that I am too late.

This past week, started having other symptoms, my upper back to the right has been bothering me-dull pain.
Sometimes, it moves around going to the left of the back but mostly on the right.  At nights I also get back pain stright in the middle.  What could all this be?

I have made appointments to ENT, GASTRO and Endo specialists.  But till I actually get to go and get some answers a person can go insane.  Which is what I feel happening to me.

Anyway, that's all I want to say for now.  If anyway has any helpful comments to add please feel free.  Any additional insight would be helpful.

It sounds comparible to what I experienced. Everyone said it was acid reflex - I had every test known to man on ulcers - IBS - acid reflex and so on.

I my situation I had little relief from all the treatments I tried and was given - I then went on a desperate search to see if something other than traditional procedures could help me.

I found acupuncture - certain supplements - and balancing my ph and digestive track - changing my diet very helpful in solving my issues.

Good Luck

So, I finally went to an ENT Dr. on Wednesday regarding my voice.  It turns out I have a bad case of Acid Reflux which damaged my vocal cords.  So he put me on Nexium for couple of months.  Also, last weekend, I thought I was having some kind of attack at night, so on Saturday morning I went to the ER, I was afraid maybe was having heart attack.  At the ER I had a chest xray done which was fine (thank god!), and an abdominal sonogram.  It turned out I have a stomach ulcer.  Dr. gave me prescription for antacids and told me to go on diet.  Whew!!! That was easy.

So this coming Saturday, I have an appointment with the Gastro DR. to fully investigate this.

Quitting smoking can cause a long term hoarseness without cancer.

Acid reflex is a big possibility too.

I never got an answer - but I had it for two years. My reflex ended and so did that.
