I'm a 25 year old female and my TSH levels are 119.7 is there any health risks I need to be concerned about?

I was just diganosed with hypothyriodism. I recieved my TSH levels which are at 119.7. They are far from what they should be. I'm concerned but dont really know why and what to be concerned with. I would like a direction to be at a starting point to getting me healthy. I have real bad anxiety attacks and would like to know what to worry about and what not too. Any answers?

What other tests were run?  FT3 or FT4?  Antibody tests - TPOab or TGab? Have you had an ultrasound?

You will need to start on thyroid med - most likely your doctor will start you on a low dose and work it up gradually.  This will take longer to get your levels back in line, but will be easier for your body to adjust to.

It takes several weeks for a med change to take effect, so you should be retested approx 6 weeks after each change.  Make sure that you request Free T3 and Free T4, along with the TSH, each time you are tested because these FT3 and FT4 are the actual thyroid hormones and are the best indicators of what your thyroid levels are.  TSH is actually a pituitary hormone.........

I know it's easier said than done, but do try to relax.  Anxiety is a symptom of hypoT, so it's not unusual that you are worried and anxious.  I'd suggest that you read some of the other posts to get an idea of what some of us have been through and you'll know that we are all right here with you.

Hi,

a tsh this high would seem to indicate severe hypothryoid.  Did they also test your FT3 and FT4 levels?  I would imagine you are feeling very bad with these levels.

You should be started on replacement thyroid hormone immediately.  It may be necessary to build the dose up to the correct level over a few months.  You will need to be treated with this medicine for the rest of your life.

Have you seen your doctor yet?  What treatment are they proposing?  Would likely be best to be seen by an endocrinologist.

Once you start the treatment, you should start to feel better, but it will take a few months or even more to get things optimised.

Generally guidelines for health would apply.  However, I wouldn't start focussing on exercise til your levels are much better (probably just limit to a bit of walking, if you can).  Once your levels are better try regular exercise. In the meantime, eat well adn be patient with yourself.
