In range TSH, low body temp, hypo sx

Hi all! This is a question for my husband...He has several symptoms of hypothyroid including a waking body temp of 96.5, lethargy and fatigue, depression, migraines, hair loss, low libido, sensitive to cold, and his TSH is at 3.1 with a high T-3 and low T-4...The endo didn't seem impressed by the numbers and has blown him off...Is the low body temp always from Hypothyroidism? This all started a year ago when he unofficially had meningitis (dr presumed this too late to check for it) and was very ill with a fever and severe head pain...any input? I'm so worried this is something like a pituitary tumor or something equally bad. ~MM

Thanks! He had thyroid antibodies done, and it had a level (20?) but it said it was "in range"...I'm not quite sure what to make of this...Does that mean antibodies are present but not active? ~MM

Hi MM

Sorry about the news on your husband. I do think low body temp can indicate a problem - but you know yourself - no one will look at that being an issue to Dx hypothyroidism.

I am concerned about his illness with meningitis, You know, when adults get illness like this - or mono as adults - it spirals off into other things. We are all born with a certain amount of antibodies and if they get sparked up in something like what happen to your husband - then they can start their attack on the body. If what you say is correct on the "free's??" T3 and T4 then he is converting thyroid hormones and he may not be looked at further for the illness.

Subclinical TSH 3.1 is present though.  Did we test for antibodies?

Have the lab run a Tgab and TPOab. Ask his doctor to look at these.
