Iodine replacement?

Hi All, I was just wondering if anyone has been put on Iodine replacement after having your thyroid removed.  My Dr. just put me on liquid Iodine and I had never heard of this.

hi,
Your doctor is on the ball. I wish all the doctors would look into orthoiodine supplementation, Many of us people who had RAI probably would have never had to have it.  Most thyroid issues, goiters, nodules, hashimotos and graves were ALL treated with iodine/iodide solutions . this was of course Before the stupid invention of synthroid ,
Iodine deficiency is the CAUSE of many health issues today.

Thats odd, I always thought you did not need Iodine once you had your thyroid removed.  That not many organs really take the iodine in at all.  Are you sure he is not talking about the thyroid hormone replacement?

hi samiam,

not sure if this helps,

when i was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid, they gave me a tab called radio iodine, which killed most of it, i now have to take 175mg of thyroxine.
