Is it a thyroid problem?

Hi. I'm a singer..and for the past few years i have been having problems with my singing where i feel like something tightens up in my throat when i do so. Because of that i have to force out my voice. Not only that, once i practice music for like 20 mins or so, my voice changes completely. Recently, my music teacher asked me to check for thyroid as she has also had such a problem. I took a look at the list of symptoms on the net and i do have things like mental fogginess and poor concentration, not being able to lose weight, nervousness for no reason at times. However, i do not have any swelling on my neck. Can someone tell me if i have any thyroid problem or whether i should do a test...

I have some of the same symptoms.  I have a lot of hoarseness.  Can't sing much anymore. Had the tests and showed lots of nodules and low t3 I think.  I am tired of all the tests and all the symptoms I have.  I just want to feel normal again.

You do have a number of symptoms that are frequently related to being hypothyroid, and symptoms are the most important indicator for hypothyroidism.  The next step should be to get a number of tests done, including Free T4 and Free T3 (not the same as Total T4 and Total T3), TSH, Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies (TPO ab), Thyroglobulin antibodies (TG ab) if TSH is above range and TPO ab is within range, Reverse T3, morning serum cortisol,  Vitamin D and ferritin.

Those tests will confirm/rule out hypothyroidism.  Be aware that being within the  reference range for a given test does not automatically mean that all is well.  I say that because the ranges are far too broad to be functional for everyone.  If you can get those tests done and then post them, along with reference ranges, we will be happy to help interpret and advise further.
