Is there a connection between thyroid problems and diabetes.

I am now considered borderline diabetic.  Never had that in the family before.  Is there a connection?

Thanks so much.  I always love the encouragement I get from folks here.  I don't get results very often any more. But if I have a drs thing, I always have to come out here.  I like you guys much better than my drs.  : )

Am so glad to hear that you are doing so well.  I totally agree with goolarra; if people don't come back and let us know when they get better, it leaves people thinking everyone is miserable for life.

Your weight loss is incredible and I'm happy that you got your diabetes under control without med.

Congratulations

Thanks for everything...I know I have said it before...again and again....but I fear that I would have lost my sanity if it hadn't been for my medhelp friends.  All the help and advise I get out here has been invaluable to me.

I don't think you're gloating at all, and, furthermore, I think everyone needs a good success stroy every once in a while.  Otherwise, they get the impression that everyone is miserable for life.  Thanks for your update!

It sounds like the connection between thyroid and diabetes was not a "direct" one for you.  Rather, your thyroid issues caused you to gain weight, which seems to have contributed to the diabetes.  Congratulations on the weight loss...it seems to be doing the trick.

I don't have any current labs for thyroid.  I just got my scan on Wednesday and no results yet.

I am GREAT!!!! Life has gotten very busy, but that's ok. Things will slow down in the winter.  After the diabetes diagnosis, I went on a lower carb diet.  So far I have lost 30 lbs.  Another 30 and I will be at my pre-thyroid weight, but I could lose another 30 after that I'm sure.   I got very heavy.  I did do a health fair at work.  A few months ago, I was told that my bad cholesteral was near 300 and it is down to 161.  A ways to go, but much better and no meds.  My blood sugar was 160...it's now down to around 103, but it does have a tendency to gain at night.  and my good cholesteral is actually a bit low, but for now, I'll take it.  Oh yeah and my AC1? was at 7 and now it is at 5.6.

I have energy again. The last time I was out here, I just never thought I would have energy ever again.  I feel like I am back and I didn't think that would ever happen either.

I feel bad that I am out here gloating when I know soooo many people are hurting and confused.  But it DOES get better.

Last I knew my TSH was .18 or something like that. Low to suppress and my Free T4 was decent and of course, no Free T3 readings.

It's good talking to you all again.  I was missing my thyroid family.  Just a couple of months ago, I was getting very depressed. So I peeked, but didn't really have anything new to talk about.  I came out a while back and started up some of my trackers again.  They are very handy.  I also checked out a diabetes forum.  Hopefully, I have that in check without taking any meds at this point.

I agree with gool. Do you have other risk factors for diabetes?

The good news that if it isn't thyroid related, that you caught it EARLY and before it becomes full fledged diabetes. Start making the proper changes now. Hopefully it's thyroid related and resolve on it's on once you get stabilized(assuming you aren't?)

It's good to hear from you again...it's been a while!  I hope all has been well.

If your meds are not adjusted properly, it can and will affect your whole metabolism.  Diabetes, hypoglycemia and unstable swings in blood sugar can all be associated with thyroid.

How are you feeling otherwise?  Do you still have hypo symptoms?  Any recent labs to post (with ranges)?
