Is there a connection

My TSH levels have always been very low but within exceptable parameters according to my Doctor .  I'm suffering from insomnia and my eyesight has gotten progressively worse, especially this last year.  Is there a possible connection between a thyroid disorder and deterioration of eyesight? I have a few of the classical hypothyroiditis symptoms (dry skin, occasional depression, brittle nails, memory problems) that are listed.   Which tests should I pursue.

Also make an appointment for an OPTHAMOLOGIST not an Optometrist to rule out TED (thyroid eye disease).

Low TSH levels are indicative of HYPERthyroidism, not hypo.  Do you have your actual results?  Too often we hear doctors telling patients that their tests are "normal" only to find that the testing was inadequate or the reference ranges obsolete.

The first step would be to have free T3 (FT3) and free T4 (FT4) tested.  These are the actual thyroid hormones (TSH is a pituitary hormone) and give a much clearer picture of thyroid status than TSH.  In addition, they will give you and your doctor an idea as to which direction further testing should go.

Deterioration of eyesight can be a symptom of thyroid dysfunction.  Are you at that age (40s-ish) where eyesight starts to go?
