Is there a correlation between low cortisol and low thyroid

I have in the past been given snythroid for low functioning thyroid.(July 2002) Hypothyroidism runs in my family. I was 35 and having all sorts symptoms related to hypothyroidism and undoubtedly,  I could not get pregnant for 8 months.(Jan 2002-July 2002) I was put on 25MCG of Synthroid in July and by September I was pregnant. I stayed on this medication until I moved out of state. (My husband is active duty Military) The military doctors said I wasn't hypothyroid, but my civilian doctor said I was. I have been battling with this ever since. This past summer, I came in contact with Poison ivy, I was put on Prednisone for a month, my thyroid levels went from 3.1 to .74. They have since been going up. I am now back at 3.0, and my cortisol levels were measured for the afternoon. They were at 5.5. I have been gaining weight since I was taken off my original snythroid. My Vit D levels are low too, 26. I have been taking either 15,000 mg for the week of Vitamin D or 4000 a day. Are all or any of these things related to Low functioning Thyroid? Please help me, because every other doctor I have met here in Maryland says my levels are normal. By the way, my original doctor felt convinced when she had me keep records of my basal body temperature. My temperature is anywhere from 95.6 to 97.0. By putting me on the medicine in 2002, my weight leveled off, I slept more, didn't feel cold as much, could finally go to the bathroom, and I had got pregnant. Now, in 2010, I have since gained 18- 20 pounds since 2005 (i am 5"7 and now weigh 158-160) I weight lift 3 times a week, run on the treadmill (anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours), I do yoga 2-3 times a week.  I practically eat nothing but vegetables and still i gain weight. Please help me.

I SO hear your frustration!, when I was first dx'd with hypothyroidism, I was put on Synthroid .125mcg/day, and lost all my xtra weight, that i'd been trying so hard to lose, now, they changed my epilepsy medication, and keep lowering my synthroid, I'm down to only .112mcg/day and in the past yr I have gained 25 pounds! I excersise.. I keep a food journal, (Peanut butter is my downfall, twice a week I average eating it) otherwise on the norm, I eat 1000 or less cal./day I almost always eat way more protein than fats.. It's so frustrating!!
