Sternal depression can now be operated on but I think maybe Surgeons will wait until you have stopped growing which is usually around the age of 18-21 years.
Do you get the asthma with the depression?
Anyway this is worth discussing with your parents and your Doctor who may refer you to a Specialist who deals with that type of surgery.
As for the thyroid...NO-ONE can know if you are going to suffer with thyroid issues as it is not always heriditary but most times Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism) and Hashi's (hypothyroidism) is.
I am 49 years old and never found out I had it until a few years ago yet it seems I have suffered with it many years so it wouldve been hard for your parents to 'detect' it as it causes symptoms that could be 'something else'.
As RedHead said.....you should ask your Doctor for your test results and if antibody testing hasnt been done, then I suggest you ask your Doctor to do this.
Also what age are you?
And welcome to the Forum...we are a bunch of people who can help support you through this :)
Hi there. We aren't doctors on this forum but thyroid patients who help each other.
It does sound like you are hyperthyorid, but without any blood test result it is difficult to say.
Do you have any blood test results that you could put up here for us?
If you are in your teenage years, often boys will be very skinny then.
It would be good if you could put here exactly what the letter says, then we can help you.
This forum is made up of people that have some type of thyroid disorder, If you have a overactive thyroid, then it is the possible cause of being underweight, there is no way to tell without posting your thyroid lab results, which would include TSH, Free T3 and Free T4, There are also medications to help with your thyroid condition. If you want to consult with an MD, there is a button at the top (Doctors) for that purpose. Good Luck FTB4
