Just Received RAI treatment

Hi everyone, I've never joined a community like this, but came across this while doing my research. It can feel a little lonely having Graves because it seems like my loved ones don't understand that this kinda ***** to go through. There are people who are worse off though. Anywho, I was wondering if anyone has done the RAI treatment too? I just took the radioiodine last Thursday and started taking the Methimazole again on Saturday. But, I still feel kinda crappy, tired and such. I was wondering how long it took people to start feeling better again???

When you do get these tests, feel free to post them here Include all of your levels and the reference ranges provided for each one, then members can advise on how you are with the thyroid, also include medication and dosage prescribed. Best Wishes FTB4

I have not had an RAI, although many here have, First of all, Prior to your RAI you were Hyperthyroid, now that your thyroid is not going to be producing hormone anymore, you will be Hypothyroid, and most have symptoms of Hypo prior to getting stable with the Hormone Replacement Medication, your MD should do a Thyroid Panel in anywhere from three weeks to 6 weeks after your RAI treatment, If he is a good thyroid MD, he will order Free T4, Free T3 and TSH labs. Free T3 and your symptoms should be his main concern. You need to question him as to wether he is going to order the Free T3 test, if he says it is not needed, you must insist on this test, Free T3 is the actual hormone your body needs to function. If he still refuses, then in order to save you from months of misery and symptoms, you may want to consider finding another MD who does treat by Symptoms and Free T3, not TSH alone as most do. We have all been through this issue with MD's who swear by TSH and it ranges over anything else, and that mind set will cause you to be sick much longer than it needs to be. Best Regards FTB4
