Just need comfort, and wanted to get a response soon.

Ok here goes.  About 2 months ago, I decided to go into the doctors because my periods were (and still are) off.  I was having (and still am) 2 to 3 periods in a month.  I am on birth control, i was on zoloft (stopped).  The doctor order five viles of blood to be drawn to do a whole work up on me to figure this out.  Thyroid problems is what we found.  So two days later I give two more viles of blood, and found out that my TSH and T3 levels are high (TSH 6.something and T3 not sure just high), and my T4 levels normal.  I have not heard anything like this before.  I set up a appointment with a specialist, abouta month 1/2 ago, and waiting till tuesday to go in.  In this last week I noticed the lump in my throat getting bigger and really starting to hurt.  not very much bigger just a little.  All of my neck gland are swollen and it is more difficult for me to swallow (sore to swallow).  At work today and last night I have been losing my voice, and the lump you get before you cry, that is a constant feeling in my neck right now.  It feels like there is something stuck.  I just need some real advice, i have been waiting and waiting, should i call the doctors tomorrow and maybe get my appointment sooner?  even though its only 4 days away?  i am just really scared, and have no one to consult with, i just want to hear from someone that might be or have gone through this or similar.....oh and this site really needs a chat room.  i have tried to find a good relyable chat but none that are really good.  well i cant wait to hear from anyone!

Hi thank you so much for your responses!  It has helped me to calm down a little.  I have 2 days and I am going to wait.

My doctor does not want me on any meds yet because of the T3 levels being elevated also.  he said that is not normal even in thyroid problems.  TSH and T3 elevated.  Soon I will have all of my paperwork and i will post it up.

I am seeing an endo.  hopefully he will have more answers for me...

As for the lump, its a lump on the right side, its not the whole thyroid ya know? i am hoping it is a simple fix.  i dont want to go through some sort of surgery.  that scares me.

Hawaii is absolutely beautiful.  i am on oahu, and the traffic on this island really sucks.  but i have heard a lot of really good things about maui! i plan on visiting that island eventually!

again thank you all for your support and i will keep everyone updated

Personally, I'd wait.  I'm just thinking if they try to squeeze you in earlier you might get rushed through.  It seems like first appointments are allotted more time.  I don't know, just a thought based on my experiences.

Of course if you're in excruciating pain, that's another story.

A chat room would be nice, wouldn't it?

Good luck.

I think you will be OK to wait to call the office. You should be OK to wait and go Tuesday. Here is what I believe and have been there myself.

If your TSH was 6 something (that would be 6.0 ) then you would be hypothyroid. The lump , I think, is a little thyroidtitis coming on which is swelling ( enlargement) in the middle of the neck and over. Your thyroid is shaped like a butterfly so your isthmus (middle) and over is where the thyroid is (between your collar bone and adam's apple) if the swelling is based there - most likely this is it. It also will swell when you are stressed out - so easier said than done - relax some.

When you went to the doctor - did he suggest thyroid meds? Being hypo usually will result in heavy and frequent periods - (HyPER is usually light to no periods)

Is the specialist an endo?

Take this time before your appointment to really examine yourself and how you feel. Here is a simple checklist below to either print out and take with you and discuss with your doctor. This will definately help your doctor and speed up the process for him/her to help you feel better.

Also you need to keep a track record (yourself) on your thyroid gland - get to know it and feel it often - Know when things are changing and how your symptoms are when these changes occur. Here is a simple neck check you should do - maybe two times a month until you know what actually is going on. Then monthly.

Good Luck

I feel for you believe me!  I have been batteling with Drs for the past 2 years and I think they think I am wacko.  My periods were disappearing for months and the I would hemmorage for a month and be completely wiped out.  They jusy wanted me to get and IUD not try to find out why this is happening.  My Thyroid seems to be an issue and I have had a huge weight gain and am unable to lose it.  I have been in for testing too and the waiting seems endless.  I would call the Drs and see if there is a cancellation.  It could not hurt.  I have a fullness in my throat too and my primary care dr said  my thyroid felt slightly enlarged.  Hopefully you will get the answers you need so you can start healing/treating yourself.  Good Luck and hang in there!
