Mutter mutter mutter....yes, I am a little peeved right now. Had TT in Dec 2007. Some of you may remember I was feeling pretty darn out of it, lousy, tired, bawling my eyes out every 5 minutes for no apparent reason, etc etc.(Thanks for some of your answers to my posts, people) Saw my G.P. who was very reluctant to do any TSH levels. Even after I cried my eyes out and begged him, he said, Wait for the surgeons appointment and see what she says. Bah! Humbug ! Is what I said.
So off I trotted, ok, sat as a very peeved off passenger, can't drive coz I fall asleep too easily! Saw the surgeon last week. Yes, she says, the parathyroids were bruised from the surgery, but your calcium levels are now 2.83 so you can drop down from 4x600mg to 2x600mgs. Woohoo thinks me! Only have to choke once a day now!
Then she said, You really look awful....Really? I ask? The new outfit doesn't make me look glowing with health? I told her if I had to continue feeling this bleeeeeeeeeeeping lousy I was going to do something very drastic. She looked at the results...What was your TSH before surgery again? 2.79, says me.....Oh....she says flatly....It's now 11.83 OH REALLY? Says I now understanding alot. AND your T4 is 18.3...but the good news is your T3 is 4. Oh well, that is good news NOT! Suddenly the past 7 weeks from hell has all been explained to me. She then went on to say that I must have a problem with the absorption of the tablet...no kidding....I only TOLD you that prior to surgery I have to take 5 iron tablets to get the benefit of maybe just one...I have malabsorption syndrome you dumb woman!
So, you must be feeling bone tired...and out of it....I just gave her one of my classic "well dah!" looks.
So now i am up to 150mcg a day...and we shall see how that helps...if at all in 5 weeks.
All I can say is Hoo-bloody-ray I was right! Sigh......
Even better is now my cholesterol has rocketed in less than 2 months from 5.6 to 7 !!! So my doc says, don't eat red meat (I'm a vegetarian) drink non-fat milk ( I have for years) Don't eat cakes etc, ( I have not eaten them for years) and do some swimming..(hmm me thinks with my tiredness levels that the body they find floating in the pool will just me nodding off for a while, so please do not distrub) So onto another itty bitty tablet per day! Could be coz I am hypothyroid now (always gets me that, how can I be hypothyroid when I technically don't HAVE a thyroid...should be called hypo-mental-crack-the poos-fall-down-dead syndrome! Hee hee) Could be coz it runs in the family too, but we will see in a few weeks what is happening there too.
So all in all a very interesting week......oh did I mention my old knee injury has flared up again.....Hashimoto's strikes again!
Untill next time dear fellow thyroidians....be good ! and if you can't be good, enjoy yourself!
From sunny Australia!
