Hi all, So I am in a bit of an unusual situation, and I could use some advice. I had a PT 3 months ago and my blood work has been ok-fine, never as good as it was before the surgery, but in general I have no symptoms. Recently, 2 weeks ago, I got another thyroid panel from my mom's doc in the mountains. He is an aging PCP, not too keen on endocrinology but the appt was free so I took it. I don't have an endocrinologist, just an expensive PCP in Santa Monica whom I've been to once when I had insurance...
The mountain PCP called my mom's house and told her the results were "normal."
I requested a hard copy because I need to see the numbers for my own reference. They took 2 weeks to send it..but since he'd said "normal" I believed him.
2 weeks later, I am in Switzerland because I relocated for my husband's job. My mom scanned and emailed the copy of my test results: Free T3/T4 normal, but TSH 7.27!!! (HOW is this normal??)
Very mild (if any, i can't tell if it's my imagination) symptoms such as 2lb weight gain, dry hair, a little tired, but all this could be explained by jetlag and the fact i just died my hair.
My last TSH was <4, so this was most definitely a concern. So my mom called the office (I can't due to 9 hr time difference) and the PCP faxed a Rx to CVS and my mom picked it up and airmailed it asap.
Anyway, the Rx was for 75 mcg of Levothtroxine. I am very concerned because I think this first dose is too high; my surgeon had told me if I did need medication to start low like 25-50 mcg.
I was thinking of cutting the pill in half so I get 37.5 mcg. Also my insurance here kicks in here in Europe in one month, so i am wondering if I should just get new blood work? Especially because I think they have different medication formulations here than they do in the US (and, some would argue, better doctors).
Please, any advice very much appreciated! Should I cut pill in half, should I wait one month?
