I'm newly hypo too. Trying to get regulated on Levoxyl. My experience was--
TSH 8.2, felt pretty good after a year of hyper, started Levoxyl 50 mcg
TSH 2.5 , felt yucky, gained 4 lbs, cold, gut pain, muscle cramps
TSH 2.8, same as above, but worse, called the Dr.s, increased to 75 mcg, pharmacy substituted generic.
8 days later, TSH 0.9, feeling better
Dr. explained I should expect to have some days when I feel "off" because I'm still having hormone fluctuations. Ha! I have permission to lay on the couch all day if I feel like it!
Now, 6 weeks later, the gut pain is creeping back again and I'm sleeping 9 to 10 hours a night. So I think my TSH is probably creeping back up again. I'll find out next week.
I wish there was an instant fix. Everyone says 6 weeks for the Levoxyl. I disagree. I got relief in a week after an increase. However, after 6 weeks I think the dose is leveling off.
Hang in there. If you don't feel well, ask for another blood test and possibly switch brands. The fillers of some brands don't agree with some people.
Hi Dani,
I really wish I could help you, but my doctor is the one who told me I converted. My blood levels reflected a need for meds. Based on my answers to his questions, he also decided to check my vitamin d level, and I am very low. Now I have to take d3 everyday, too. He said, "it seems you've converted". I couldn't be more thrilled and CAN'T WAIT for the levoxyl to kick in. I can't wait to be me again!!!!!!!!!!
I am sorry you are struggling. It's impossible, isn't it? I have had my primary MD try to convince me I had depression. Believe me, I was not depressed. He did check my TSH, but when the levels were "normal" (whatever that means), he became more convinced I was not only depressed, but a hypochondriac as well. Nice.
I really hope you get to feeling better soon. I have no idea how long it takes to need meds. I think it's different for each one of us. My MD did say to me last week that a person with Hashi's risk for developing hypo increases by 2 percent every year. I don't know how long i even had hashi's until it was found. All I know is that I struggled with lots of the symptoms for so long without knowing what the heck was going on. I wish you lots of luck.
I don't have answers for you either but had a question. How do you know you have ended the cycle with Hashi's and are now 100% hypo? I am STRUGGLING real bad with my Hashi's and was wondering when it would stop. Any advice?
Hi ChitChat! Thank you for welcoming me and for the answer. Appreciate it very much! Have a great day!
Hi and welcome .. it takes 6 weeks for Levoxyl to fully get into and work in your system.
I don't have answers . .wish I did .. but not my expertise so just wanted to stop by!
