thyroid nodules

Does my mother need to undergo FNAB (fine needle aspiration biopsy) and CT SCAN after I received the results from her ultrasound that she has diffuse thyroid enlargement with multiple thyroid nodules; the thymus of her thyroid i smeasuring 1.54 x 1.24 cm on right lobe and 1.62 x 1.07 cm  on left lobe with a diameter of 1.21 cm and with tiny hypoechoic nodules?
And what is the best thing that we can do in order for me to CLEARLY if her thyroid nodules are cancerous or not / benign or malignant? Because I have already a fear about cancer because my mother's sister was recently died due to thyroid cancer.. that was mistakenly thought as a simple goiter or benign thyroid cancer.
Please help me, thanks. I'll be waiting for your reply. God bless you.

Ditto to previous comments, I wanted to tell you that there can be a family link...I have papillary cancer, so does my sister, and my other sister has nodules and is being checked.  I have two brothers with Hashimotos (I had it too) and my father had Hashi's when he was alive.  do not discount that it could run in the family.  There is another woman on this forum who goes by Utahmomma, she had cancer, her three sisters, and her daughter, too.  I would have an FNA biopsy, but that is not always accurate, my sister's  FNA found the cancer, but mine did not.  UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS NO REAL WAY TO FIND OUT FOR SURE UNLESS THEY HIT THE TUMOR WITH THE FINE NEEDLE.   I had to have 1/2 removed before they gave me a cancer diagnosis, then I had the other side removed later.  Listen to the doctors, and be sure to divulge the fact that her sister died of thyroid cancer.

Sorry to hear about your aunt. Thyroid problems could be hereditary on your mom's side of the family. It will be advised for your mom to have a fna just to rule out cancer, however, some cancer's are not found until removal of the thyroid due to the fact that a needle aspiration does not biopsy all of the thyroid tissue. IN the worst case scenario...if there are any abnormalities...it's easier to treat when caught early. Hope this helps..
