Sonogram of Thyroid

My endocrinologist ordered several blood tests that would give her some insight on some of the symptoms I have.  The tests revolve mostly around thyroid, adrenal, pituitary and kidney.  She also ordered a sonogram of my thyroid and said that my last blood test came back slightly elevated in a thyroid catagory (I don't know which test she was talking about) and she said it feels slightly larger... she encouraged me to not be alarmed, she just had a feeling it needed checked.

I went to my primary dr. for something else and she too felt my thyroid and said it felt "full".  I told her the endocrinologsit ordered the sonogram and some blood work... she asked if I could have the lab copy her on all the results.

What are they looking for and should I do any research.

PS.  I am 29. My symptoms are type II diabetes, recent rapid weight gain, hot, swelling hands, lethargic, mood swings, ovarian cysts, pain in the area of my kidneys during stress, etc.

I had a Ct scan of the chest about 3 weeks ago...it showed that my lungs were clear but that there was a 3 cm mass on the left lower pole of my thryoid, is this considered a large mass??? Also I had a thyroid globulin test, the thyroid Ab was <20 which was within normal limits but the thyroid something ICMD or something like that was not suppose to be over 35 but was 297, can anyone tell me what the abnormal test results are showing?

At this moment I can speculate that the TSH number was elevated.
Determining the thyroid volume by palpation is not accurate method, that why they sending you for the ultrasound.
The ultrasound will show if any nodules are present, their type, size and shape, as well as the size of the gland.
The range of normal thyroid volume must be from 9 to 18 cu cm for women and 8 to 22 cu cm for men.
30 % of 30 years old people have small benign nodules in their thyroids seen only on the ultrasound. You can however detect some large nodules yourself by performing AACE recommended thyroid neck check.
