Out of range

Have you ever heard of someone having a normal TSH but the T3 and T4 are both high?  I have all the symptoms of hypo: extreme fatigue, constipation, dry skin (ichtyosis), hair falling out, cold all the time, sluggish and a family hypo history (aunt, uncle, cousin). After I had my last son I didn't start my period on my own and had to take something to get it started again.  Never had problems getting pregnant though.  I don't have any hyper symptoms. My endo is doing another test (iodine reuptake and sonogram of thyroid).  She said she hasn't ever seen results like mine.  I think my TSH was 2. something and one of my other levels was around 17. My mom had the same experience with her thyroid at about my age, 32.  She went to lots of endo's and one said that even though her T3 and T4 were elevated she didn't have hyper and that she shouldn't take medicine for hyper, it would be detrimental. I really think I'm hypo even with these results b/c of my symptoms,  can a person take medication for hypo if they have all the symptoms just to see if it will help?  Any advice would be helpful.

Your levels might suggest Thyroid Hormone Resistance - THR, where TSH normal and F/Ts are high. THR is very rare and usually dominantly inherited.
The most common cause of the syndrome are mutations of the B (beta) form of the thyroid hormone receptor, of which over 100 different mutations have been documented. The diagnosis may involve identifying a mutation of the thyroid receptor.

Blood test levels for this disorder can also be found in other disorders for example TSH-oma (pituitary adenoma) or other pituitary disorders.

No treatment is available to fully correct the defect causing RTH. The majority of individuals if left alone adequately compensate for the abnormal TRß through increased TH secretion.

Because symptoms are subjective and nonspecific, it is difficult to assess to what extent these symptoms are caused by the high TH levels acting predominantly on peripheral tissues. Therefore symptom might have to be treated individually and separately.

This is really out of my realm and just about all the info I have because HTR is very involved and out of my understanding scientifically. And this is not a diagnose, just info, but hope this might help somewhat.

Good Luck!

Have your endo check all your antibodies and see if they are high.
