i take levothyroxin 100mcg and yaz pill at different times of day(4mos yaz) and my weight has dropped 3-5lbs.i'm very concerned and made a drs.appt. has anyone else experienced these problems with these meds together?
yes kitty9309, you are correct! thyroid hormones circulate in your blood in two forms, bound and free. the free levels of thyroid hormone are active and the bound forms are inactive. estrogen increases the amount of thyroid hormones that are bound, leaving you with less free active thyroid hormone. a normal individual is able to compensate for this by increasing their thyroid hormone levels. however, since your body is not able to make its own thyroid hormone, your levels of active thyroid hormone are lower. this may be why you are gaining weight, which is a symptom of HYPOthyroidism.
I have read that the Estrogen in bc (as well as estrogen therapy) can change your thyroid hormone requirements. Try doing an internet search.
Is your TSH okay?
