Are blood levels enough to diagnose?

My gyn didn't send me to an endo, didn't do an MRI of my pituitary.  She told me my thyroid hormones are low (T3 2.9; T4 1.22; TSH 1.279)--from blood work.

Now I'm on Nature-Throid 1/day/65mgs, and I feel horrible (after three weeks).  I didn't present with any symptoms.  Now I can't function, I'm so lethargic, and I sleep all the time.

What is wrong with this picture?  Don't I need more work-up, and are there negative effects to this medication that I should have been told.  I mean, how do we know it's not pituitary?  How do we know I don't have a node, a cyst or something?

Your TSH is very normal. You do not need thyroid hormones! I am being treated for hypothyroidism and the Endo wants mt TSH just where yours is: between 1 and 2.

Also, you're right my gyn is a gynecologist, not an endocrinologist.  She loves to give out growth hormone, as well.  (IThis IS Hollywood, and everyone wants to stay young forever.)

More when I get my ranges.  Also, I will be seeing and endo.

Thanks, again, for your interest.

My gyn thinks the answers to life are in hormones.  She gives them out like candy.  I'm confused by your saying that my TSH is perfect and then later saying it should be higher.  Nature-throid is just like Armour; it's dessicated vs. synthetic.  Natur-throid has an anti-allergen in it, and no corn starch, which Armour uses as a sweetener.

As for my labs, you're right, I'll have to get the ranges; I know that now.

Thank you for your interest.

Why is your Gynocologist treating your thyroid? Maybe I misunderstand gyn.

Your TSH is perfect, but it looks like your T3/T4 are low. If you could post what the lab considers normal ranges, that would help a lot.

From the numbers, it looks like your TSH should be a lot higher.
You are asking good questions. Maybe you need to ask them to a different doctor.

Never heard of Nature-Throid, either. But then, I'm not anything close to well informed. Is that pig hormones like Armour? If so, you may be getting too much T3.

Hope you find the answer to your problem.
