Many Iodine levels vastly differ from what's indicated on label ..

I saw a great article about how many prenatal vitamins, both OTC and prescription, have VASTLY different levels of iodine in them than indicated on the label.  I'm wondering if the same holds true for regular multivitamins, and what implications this has for people, like us, with thryroid disease.

I was shocked at how much the actual level of iodine differed from the stated amounts.  Some had much more; some had far too little.    Here's the article:

I'm just wondering what you think -- Could this explain some "unexplainable" problems that we thyroid sufferers have?

What do you think?

C~

Send or post the link which has merit and I'll put into our Health Pages as a good addition.  Maybe PM me to let me know you've sent it so I can get it up there if you think it'll help our members :)

Great feedback!

I have been doing ALOT of checking out on this type of stuff C - I hit the hyperlink in the article on the ATA and read their information too.

I wasn't impressed with their diet choices for iodine intake at all -  One of their listings to intake iodine is soy -

Ahhhhhhhh - big no no for thyroid..

The other is Bread. Years ago bread was anexcellent source of iodine - but within 30 years , bread is not processed commercially with iodine - but with bromine. Bromine is a poision to the body and actually blocks the receptors of healthy iodine causing the body to become toxic.

When supplementing with iodine- the body will have a detox reaction from bromine- floride- along with the polluants of enviromental toxins. The iodine pushes out these toxins and for some - it can feel like a thyroid dump/hypothyroidism symptoms until the toxins release.

I found in this article from the ATA inforamtion just a little commercialized and not very good on measurements and diet choices for thyroid patients.

I made the yahoo information a favorite though and saved it.

Thanks

I absolutely agree! My practitioner had told me recently to not consume any vitamins or supplements with iodine in it at all.
Good catch on the article C!
