May seem like an odd question...

Lately I get incredibly hungry almost hourly, but only not in the mornings. I do eat even a little something every 3 hours so it shouldn't be about that.

Is this nuts? I get hungry again even if I just ate a snack an hour ago. If I strive to hold off on eating again then I feel as though I did when I first began to quit smoking.

Seems so strange to me.  Does this ring a bell with any one?  It's pretty frustrating.

Thanks!

Sal

Thanks for the kind words.  I'm aware of the CFCF type of eating as in the past my Son was allergic to milk and wheat at the same time.  Thankfully he outgrew the wheat allergy and learned how to best control and tolerate the milk problem for his own body.  Just hadn't really thought of it relating to my own eating.

I'm upping the amount of protein I'm taking since it is likely too low for someone who exercises daily as I do.  I have upped the amount of calories involved already to keep myself out of that starvation mode.

I may very well try the gluten free route after I'm done with Phase 1.

How nice that your Daughter is doing better!

My daughter hes been this way before (9 and born without a thyroid gland). She was worse when on Synthroid and her t4 was too high and t3 too low (imbalanced hormonally.) She has been much improved since we swithed to desiccated thyroid (1 year). Her thyroid levels are more balanced now and kept higher in the range with TSH under 1. She cannot tolerate carbs and sugars very well at all (processing is slow) and cereal is a no no! I now have her on a fairly glutin  free diet (we also avoid milk (use Almond milk instead)and peanuts (fungal), and artificial sweeteners (stevia okay(Truvia is best to use) and this seems to be doing the best at controlling the hunger monster that I have seen "roar it's ugly head" many times in her life. Her stomach is less bloated and she is definitly more "in control"! I think diet can play a huge role when dealing with thyroid issues. Thyroid imbalance really can effect the seritonan and blood sugar levels within the brain/body in my opinion. The uncontrolled hunger and carb. cravings that I have witnessed in her in the past was not my imagination and very unnatural! It has been my goal this year to get this under control and I think we have found the answer for her. Her weight gain has stopped and she is not near as hungry! She is also taking an antifungal drug (Nystatin with psyllium) and lots of water to help with suspected fungal overgrowth due to a high gliadin level on her saliva test. Try modifying your diet even more (eliminate as many processed wheat products as possible) and see if it makes a difference. Or try the glutin free route. It's really not as hard as you think. (I have a great resource for good bread, as this is the hard part with this diet) I think you will see a difference as many people with thyroid issues have found this to be beneficial for what ever reason. They say that glutin is full of fungus and todays refined wheat has 9 x more glutin in it then in the past and peanuts are also high in fungus, Also, milk and sugar feed it and make it grow! People with hypothyroid issues cannot process it well as we are often low metabolic and it sits there in the gut. Maybe it's the fungus causing the excess huger who knows. All I do know is that it seems to be helping my daughter so we will continue on this route to wellness. I hope I've given you some ideas to consider. Good luck!

Hmmm...started Phase 1 of South Beach again this past week.  Between working out daily and this way of eating, have FINALLY lost five pounds!!!  Not done yet of course, but it's a start.  I highly doubt it's from the T3/T4 dessicated thyroid med since only started it over the weekend and that's merely coincidental.

Still hungry in late afternoon repeatedly and have to carefully plan what items to eat that are low in carbs and sodium with a mild eye at fat content too.

Am truly hoping that it was a side-effect and carryover from being on Chantix for six months to quit smokiing.
