TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by so many variables that it is inadequate as the main diagnostic for thyroid.  At best TSH is an indicator to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms and also the levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4.  Free T3 is the most important because it largely regulates metabolism and many other body functions.  Studies have also shown that FT3 correlated best with hypo symptoms, while FT4 and TSH correlated very poorly.

So that is why I asked you to look at the list of typical symptoms and see if you recognized any others.  And then I forgot to give you the link, so here it is.

So please tell us about any other hypo symptoms that you see on the list.   Also, if you are able to get the tests done for FT3 and FT4, then post results and their reference ranges and members will be glad to help interpret and advise further.

Many patients taking the dosage of T4 meds that you are report that they have suppressed TSH levels, in order for their FT3 and FT4 levels to be high enough to relieve symptoms.   Since your TSH is over 2, I am suspicious that you may find that your FT3 and FT4 levels are still too low in their ranges to relieve symptoms.  I think you need to be tested for Free 3 and Free T4 to find out.

Many members report that symptom relief for them required that Free T3 was adjusted into the upper part of its range and FT4 adjusted to at least midpoint of its range.  Symptom relief should be all important, not test results.  Test results are valuable mainly as indicators during diagnosis and then afterward to track Ft3 and FT4 levels as meds are revised to relieve symptoms.

yes when i was taking 200mcg my ft3 and ft4  was really too high thats why i was rushed to ER that time..

by my next appointment i will insist to my endoc to test also my FT3 and FT4 along with my TSH..i really want to to get rid from all the symptoms and side effects i am experiencing right now.many thanks!

Compared to the reference ranges those tests are consistent with being over medicated  and related symptoms.  The FT4 result is way over the upper range limit.  In addition you said that the tests were from a period 4 weeks after reducing your meds, so your thyroid hormone levels must have been even higher previously.

In the future you need to insist that the doctor test you for the biologically active thyroid hormones, FT3 and FT4, along with the TSH they always check, each time you go in for an appointment.  In the future you should make try to assure that your doctor treats you clinically, as I described above by testing and adjusting FT3 and FT4 as necessary to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels.

my last test on FT3 taken nov 5,2010 was 4.86 and the reference range indicates there was 2.5 - 5.8 pmol/L  while my FT4 results was 4.86 and the reference range was 11.5 - 23.0 pmol/L

these tests are done 1 month  after i take 200mcg..i was taking 150mcg already when i had the test and still recovering from my experience with 200mcg.

Your doctor should be checking the Ft4 and Ft3 because these are the actual circulating thyroid hormones, and the TSH is not.

What we were looking for is the reference ranges that go with the FT3 and FT4 results.  From the ranges I usually see, I expect that both test results are over the upper range limits, indicative of being hyperthyroid.

Were those tests done when you were still taking 200 mcg of med?

Can you post the lab ranges for the  Ft4 and Ft3. That way we can see where your numbers are in the range.

I had RAI for Graves 7 years ago and the dose changes quite a bit.

thank u very much for your inputs..i badly needed these kinds of insights..i experienced almost all of the symptoms mentioned in the link. aside from that i also experience cold feet, and there are times when i looked at the light i see rainbow -like around the bulb.foggy eyes and lately had tremors and involuntary muscles.

i became hypo after 7 mos i undergone my radioactive..for 2 yrs i was taking synthroid 150mcg. and my condition was going well..it all started when i changed from other brand euthyrox then  thyrax now (synthroid was phased  out already here) last year of october i feel weak and my TSH was high range 19.51 so my endoc increased my dosage from 150 to 200mcg..she advised me to take 200mcg regularly. after 8 days taking 200mcg euthyrox   i experienced chest pain, had tremors and my whole body was shaking so i rushed to ER. my family thinks i got overdose because at one point i became alive and restless...we look for onother endoc  and ask me to check my t3 ,t4 and tsh..that was my last test on T3 was 4.86 and my t4 29.30...

my new endoc decreased my dosage to 100mcg thyrax this time then after a week she increased it to my regular dosage of 150 mcg.i recoverd from it and  for 2 months my conditions was okay ..it was only lately i was experiencing again weakness, coldness and tremors and involuntary muscles from time to time..i also take 175 mcg thyrax in between weeks.so 6 days 150mcg and 1 day 175mcg my regular routine of taking pills..

i just want to know if these symptoms i am experiencing lately was still connected to my previous taking 200mcg? im worried where my tremors coming from..is it possible im more adjusted to synthroid or everything i feels now was side effects of thyrax??  tnx

Sounds more like symptoms of hypo rather than side effects of the Thyrax.

If you look through the list of typical hypo symptoms in this link, do you have any others?
What dosage of Thyrax are you taking?  Please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report so that members can comment of the adequacy of testing and the results.
