Is that 3-9 grams of soy or 3-9 grams of protein? 20-35 grams of protein/day isn't very much; I'd have to wonder if that's enough.
From my reading, I've gathered that soy can inhibit the absorption of thyroid medications. I steer clear of it, myself, though my doctor says small amounts would have little to no effect and I'm sure I consume some products that contain it, though I try not to. My doctor does, however, strictly advise using whey protein over soy, because it's higher quality protein.
One thing you might want to consider is that while most people lose weight relatively quickly on programs such as Medifast and others, as soon as they go off the "diet", they regain the weight.
I think some of the effects of soy on someone with thyroid problems can be felt, just like some cannot have iodine (even in seafood supposedly). If you feel no different (return of symptoms), its probably ok for this short time.
I dont know about grams of soy per day. Maybe another forum on MH will be better for that info?
Long term might be different. Long term you might want to keep searching, you say you tried every thing, but maybe not? - and that was not your question, so I will leave it there.
Thank you Lazymoose. Each item has anywhere from 3-9 grams, so I would say per day it is about 20-35 grams of soy protein total....
Does it say how much is in there on the label?
Some "thyroidians" claim they can feel large amount of soy will create short term thyroid symptoms rather quickly. I think I can. The only way to know is to try it.
soy is a controvercy that will always be there. Many leading health writers now say its bad for the whole body, yet many still support it. Its though to steer away from it if you have thyroid issues.
Its used in Asia for centuries in food, but the difference apparently is fermentation....... or not, and how much you are consuming.
This was not part of your question but part of the puzzle for weight management in addition to what you eat is frequent small meals as opposed to the American big dinner and lunch and dont eat fruit with meals. Fruit because of the sugar in it should be consumed separately from protein and carbs - you can feel the difference in proper digestion.
