Morning nausea after RAI treatment for Thy. Ca. - Is this normal?

Hi again~

I just underwent 110mcl of RAI for Pap. thy. cancer this past Thursday - 1-15-09..  Every morning since, I have had nausea in the morning.  I have never had this before.  Last night I had it as well.  I know it can be a symtom of being very hypo, which I know I am, but I did not have it until I took the RAI.  Has anyone else expierenced this and if so, how long did it last.  I just started 137 mg of Synthroid last night.

Thanks in advance for any  help!

The nausea will pass but it will take awhile. I had 341 RAI and was sick as a dog for days and the nausea lasted for a good 2 months before it started to subside. There are nausea wrist bands that you can purchase at most pharmacies. They press on the pressure point in your wrist and I found that they helped a great deal as well as mint candies and gingerale. The wrist bands are used for sea sickness as well and they are just stretchy cloth bracelets with a knob on the inside, it is important to position the knob in between the tendons on the inside of your wrist, there are instructions in the package. Good Luck.

I had horrible nausea after my RAI...you are not alone!  It passed quickly for me (partly due to the anti-nausea meds the doctor put me on), and I wish the same to you.  Best of luck!

Give the Synthroid time to kick in.  Your nausea is from both being hypo and the RAI.  I didn't get experience the nausea until I went home from the hospital after RAI.  So some three days later.  I didn't start the meds until almost a week later.  It does get better.  The nausea is just a phase.  Not a long one, but a phase none the less.  I took Zantac and it helped all along until just after I got home.  Then I wished I had some anti-nausea drugs, but it subsided almost as quickly as it came on.  Just hang in there.  Good luck.
