Muscle cramping...What's going on with me?

I've been having muscle cramping for the last 5 weeks, but in the last week they have gotten worse.  Several times leaving me rolling on the ground in tears. I've been getting them often (3-5 times a day) in my neck, shoulders, hips, thighs, chest, & butt. The worst is in the hip/butt area. I took a walk on Monday because I was feeling so achy from previous cramps and I got a really bad one in that area just from walking. It still hurts to sit down. What is going on with me?  I've been taking magnesium, Vitamin D, B complex, & calcium.  I went in for a blood test last Wed. and my dr still hasn't gotten back to me!  When I asked him about the muscle cramps, he said a lot of people get them this time of year & to get more potassium. I also got copies of all my labs and he hasn't been testing free T4, or T3 or free T3.  Why don't many drs do the right tests?!  I think it's time to find someone new. My last test showed my T4 was 13 (range 4-12) & my TSH was still <0.01.  It's been about 6months since RAI.  Other than the muscle cramps, I feel good.  No more racing heart, shaking, hot flashes, ect.

Some people have cramps just when they need their thyroid hormone increased. And some continue to get this even when thyroid T3 and T4 are decent.

I have experienced (as well as others here) that cramping lessons with FT3 in the upper third of the range as opposed to the middle. No doctor will know this, I'm sure.

And Magnesium is not all the same. There are other threads on this subject. Regular magnesium oxide is a waist - it does nothing for muscle cramps. I have used Magnesium Citrate - worked better. I just started Magnesium Glycinate supposed to be better for muscles.

In the mean time I highly suggest a product for temporary relief by Hyands called 'Leg Cramps", has mag in it and works for the whole body. Walmart has it.

"Why don't many drs do the right tests?" - most do not educate beyond med school. They are currently taught in med school to only test TSH and prescribe T4 meds. Their education is wrong.

The cramps have just kept coming back.  The "Leg Cramps" is my crutch.  I saw a new endo today and she is sure I've been hypo for awhile, causing these cramps.  She gave me 75 synthroid just to get something started in my system. She said it will prob. take 2 wks to start feeling better.  She also mentioned keeping in the levels in upper range on T4 or T3 for some people.

Cinchona Off. (Quinine)
Aconitum Nap.
Gnaphalium Poly.
Ledum Pal.
Magnesia Phos.
Rhus Tox.
Viscum Alb.

It says it's homeopathic, but I've never heard of most of this stuff.  I couldn't find Magnesium citrate or Magnesium Glycinate at the drug store. I'm going to try to find it at the vitamin store today and take that too.

This morning I feel so much better!   I'm able to move without pain. I didn't wake up in the night cramping up. The constant pain and cramps on the sides of my neck and shoulders is gone too. Before I was getting bad cramps just getting dressed or getting into my car!  Just two days of taking the "Leg Cramps" pills did wonders.  Thank God.  I hope it continues to work.

He didn't test my vitamin D levels, but I am taking 1000iu a day.  I called him because I hadn't heard from him and he had his nurse tell me to come back in 2 months.   I made an appt with the endo, but can't get in until November.
Thanks LazyMoose for the suggestion on the Leg Cramps product.  I started taking it last night and already have much relief.  My energy has been down this week, not sure if it's from all the pain from the cramps or I need some Thyroid meds. It seems like after 6mths most people are already taking something. My face is a little swollen, I've been running behind at work with my clients everyday this week, sluggish . Why is my TSH still <0.01?   Ugg...I'm not sure I can wait until November to see her. Hopefully I just start feeling better.

Thanks for you response.  I will try that product and see if it helps.  I found a endo that specializes in Thyroid conditions. Going to see if and when I can get an appt.
