Quick update: 4 days on Synthroid and vitamin D supplements. The most noticeable changes have been unexpected: a return to previous skin texture and the ability to perspire again.
I did not realize how smooth and dry my skin had become--lacking in oils--before this medication. Had chalked it up to getting older. I now wake up in the morning with the usual "oils" on my face, whereas before I had absolutely none.
About the perspiration: last month I was in a room of people that were hot and perspiring like crazy, and I was cool as a cucumber. (That seems like a good thing, I know, but it got me worried about my cooling system. I realized I hardly ever sweat anymore!) Anyway, you will be happy to know that I had a good, old-fashioned sweat yesterday. :) I knew that would make you happy.
Sending thoughts and prayers out for all of you struggling with this. Will post again soon. Please post your progress as well. Thanks!
Hi Brucergoldberg, I do take my medication right before bed. I wonder if that helps me not feel any "yuckies?" Let us know how it goes.
Last thing today, I promise....I forgot to mention another side effect so far...uncomfortable breast tenderness. Hoping it will go away. Thoughts?
I don't know about the breast thing, but I get pains everywhere. Anywhere there is a pre existing condition such as back or foot pain, it gets worse.
I'm a guy and sure some of the ladies will chime in, but if it were me I would not miss my next check up to give me reassurance.
Hi, I am new to this group (as of this evening) and also just started taking levothroxine today as well. I have some of the same symptoms of several of you, but wondered if anybody experienced weight gain and the inability to lose it. I have ALWAYS been a size 4 and in the last couple of years started putting on weight and working out, dieting NOTHING worked. I also had the sleeping soundly for 4 hours and then waking up at 4 or 5 in the morning; listlessness during the day; going through the horrible sweats (which have slowed down considerably) just to name a few.
I was talking to a couple of my high school friends and they both have thyroid issues. They suggested my dr. do some blood work, she did, and the results came in.
I sure could use some encouragement, especially about the weight issue...I don't eat much at all and I have been told by my personal trainer that this medication will help control the disorder....
Thanks everybody!
