I am a 39 year-old female with no other symptoms other than difficulty swallowing sometimes (over a number of years - I always attributed it to possibly weak swallowing muscles or just the food slipping). This all started when I went to my primary doctor about my thyroid just to get it checked out because I saw something about it on my local news and thought that maybe my TSH levels might be off (but they're fine). An ultrasound revealed a 3cm nodule located on the lower left pole of my thyroid.
Although I have not yet gone for my follow-up appointment from my FNA (which is scheduled for 9/13/10), I called the nurse to try to get a little pre-info on the results. She said the results of my biopsy (from about 3 samples) was "suspicious" and also showed a follicular lesion. Does this sound like cancer? What is usually recommended as a follow-up (a "thyroid scan" or lobe removal surgery)?
